muzzlehatch (4405), Richmond, Vermont, USA May 1, 2006 Draught sample at the brewpub. Thick syrupy maple body with a bare touch of head....decadent aroma of rum-raisin, molasses and a touch of fruitwood smoke in the long, earthy nose....candyish, sweet maple-nougat body, lightly alcoholic and a bit sticky-syrupy with evident unfermented sugars, seems a bit cloying at first but there is enough peaty/smoky burnt quality, and some interesting bitter almond notes, that combine to help it keep from being difficult to drink. Very much an after-dinner sipper, and a fairly solid one. PorterPounder (2694), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Dec 31, 2004 Had on tap at the brewpub in Savannah...points off for serving in a plastic glass - but it was New Year’s Eve. Dark orange pour with a frothy mocha colored head. Sweet aroma, a combination of bubblegum and bourbon come to mind. Flavor has some maple syrup accents with a bit of cotton candy sweetness, but not sickenly cloyingly sweet. Has enough of a malty back end to put hair on your chest. Very thick mouthfeel, a most decent brewpub Scotch Ale. BeerandBlues2 (2313), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 28, 2004 Pours nut brown to ruby with a small tan head, fair lacing. Sweet malt aroma with a hoppy nose. Some whiskey notes as well. Sweet oak flavor with a sour, tart malt finish. Medium bodied and heavy feel to the palate. aracauna (2122), Georgia, USA Nov 9, 2004 Nice ruby-brown with smallish head. Big malty aroma, slight alcohol. Maybe a little butter. A bit of smoke, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s pretty sweet, but not cloying. Slightly cakey. It’s hoppier than I expected, but the hops are mostly in the bittering and it’s a nice complement to the alcohol and sweetness. goldtwins (3559), Nesconset, New York, USA Nov 8, 2004 Poured a brownish-red. Malty aroma with a definite smokey peaty nose. Flaovr is sweet, tangy, and smokey. Alcohol is present in both the flavor and the warming sensation. Sticky medium bodied.
