WheatKing (1305) - Victoria, British Columbia, - NOV 11, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2013 Draft at the brewpub. Very clean. Crisp hops on the nose, Corn and malt flavour, and NW hops on the finish. Not cloying, not too bitter, just crisp. Standard but good, I ordered two. :) Feb 9, 2013 Had this last night and liked it so much I thought I should up the rating. Holy crow there’s a lot of horse blanket in the aroma. Snappy, like a keller.

Draught at the brewpub. Grassy, bready aroma. Clean, fresh. I really like this pils. I also smell fresh wort, but I guess that is all because they’re just brewing something right now.

Pours a light gold/yellow with a thin white head. The aroma is grassy. The beer has a crisp taste, and tastes grassy and earthy. Also bears some taste of malts. While many pilseners that I’ve tasted have had a very metallic bitterness, this one only has a slight metallic bitterness. The grassy taste is what lingers the most.

Slightly nefiltrovane straw with a thin head. Aroma bursts with blackberry hops, fresh pale malts, and a bit of noble herbaceousness. Sweet clean pale malts, earthy bitterness that lingers. Dry, herbal, the hop just grows on the palate. Pale malts are fresh, and the yeast adds just a dash of subtlety and softness. Really nice - a standout New World pilsner.

Jaune très pale avec une petite mousse blanche. L’arôme du malt, céréales, et du l’herbe. Le goût est un peu du malt, les céréales, puis un amertume assez fort pour le style.

Finally the planets and stars aligned and I got to try this one in the best conditions.
Hazy greenish yellow color. It has very nice cereal aroma and flavor, summer wheat fields, grassy hops, impressive for the elegance and the way everything blends together. Today, in the autumn sun, this beer is perfect.

2014-06-27, draught at the brewpub, 12oz, 7-3-6-3-14=33
Hazy blond color with small head. Dry, decent Pilsner, a bit papery, mostly in the final, lightly grassy; but the aroma is quite nice (7+).

2014-04-26, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 10oz, 7-3-6-3-14=33
hazy blond color with compact head. The Pils aroma is quite perfumy, but the flavor focuses too much on the cereals and not on the bread; the hops deliver impression of grass and hay; very dry, with high bitterness level.

2014-03-25, draught at Tap & Barrel, Coal Harbour, Vancouver, 7-3-7-2-13=32
Hazy blond color with small head. Some crispy malt, but mostly the grassy hop make a pleasant aroma. The mouthfeel is lean and very dry; some crispy malt flavor and grassy hops again. Unfortunately the bitterness is too aggressive, and almost unpleasant in the final.

2014-03-06, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 6-3-7-4-13=33
Blond color, hazy, with small compact head. Delicate aroma of crispy malts and grassy hops. Dry mouthfeel, but a good malt presence keeps the mouth busy, with cereal and hay accent; strong bitterness, a bit grassy, but also invasive, with some chicory in the final.
Quite good job, some refining needed with the hops though.

In short: A very grassy clean pilsner. Good.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed fresh a week or two after receiving the bottle from mcberko, thanks a lot Matt.
The look: Clear blonde body topped by a persistent small white head.
In long: Nose is very grassy (juicy freshly cut grass), ripe pineapples, apple juice, a bit of cat urine, a mild countryside character. Taste is grainy pale biscuits, dried banana peels, a zest of lime, citrusy note, lots of grass juice. Pleasant grassy bitterness leaving an after-taste sensation that is like having a mouthful of freshly cut green grass. Pretty good overall but some skunky notes bring down my score, especially since this was a fresh bottle. Despite its flaws this is something I could drink gallons of. Sure people who drink less than I do are healthier than I am, but these people will never know what it is to have a real honest conversation with a microwave oven at 4am.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2013 Draft - Grains, apple and a bit of grass. Hazy yellow with a decent white head. Bitter sweet, dry, crisp and some grain. Flavorful pils

Very nice hop aromas. Pours slightly cloudy and has great bitterness. A shortish finish. An excellent Pils.

650ml bomber bottle pours a bright golden color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is grains and grass with hints of yeast. Taste is a bold grassy and spicy hop bitterness with a grainy malt sweetness. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Very well balanced and quite tasty. I really enjoyed this pilsner and recommend it to others.
