Cask from the Toronado in SF. Pours copper with a tiny light beige head. Nose of toffee malts and English hops. Balance of sweet and bitter taste. Simple but great.

Hand pump, Toronado. Pours is dark amber/ruby. Strong malty aroma along with a bit of piney bitterness. Very malty overall, with a strong bitter finish.

Cask at Toronado during RBSG09. Copper brown color with a creamy beige head. Lots of resiny and herbal hops in the nose with some dark toast as well. Caramel and toasted malt wit lots of spicy and piney hops. This is really hoppy for the style, but has a nice balance. Toronado does cask right and this has a perfectly smooth mouthfeel. Its getting to the point where I don’t even have to ask what kind of beer it is, if it’s from Moonlight it’s going to rock.

On tap at Toronado, San Francisco, with Phyllis, 24th Mar 09. A bit murky dark amber. Lots of caramel malt, almost stale and lots of bitterness but the two halves feel detached - you get one then the other (reminds me of another beer that did that, but I can’t remember what that was).

Very dark red. Sticky head. Definitely to style of a bitter. Aroma is spot on. Really nice. Great sugary caramel malt backbone. Nice aromatic bitterness and cough drop finish

Draft at The Linkery in San Diego. Pours a dark golden amber color with a one finger off white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring.  Spotty lacing left behind. Floral, earthy aroma with a nice balance of piney and citrus hop notes.  Pine needle, grapefruit and orange peel along with some biscuity malt. Fuller bodied than expected with a good balance of dry bitterness, citrus rind and sweet malt.  Slightly dry and resinous with some pine needle and floral notes countered by some grapefruit and orange peel. Decent malt backbone provides balance without taking away from the hops.  Slightly sweet with hints of caramel, subtle toffe and biscuit.  Well done.

On hand-pump at Toronado. Pours clear amber a dense and lacy off-white head. Light body, nearly still. Aroma of citrus, herbal hops and what appears to be rye... or maybe not. Light body, nearly still. Taste of cookie dough. Dry woody spice finish, that really gives me a n impression of rye. Hmmm.....

An amazing nose packed with malt and hops. Great full hop flavor with good mouth feel and relatively clean finish for a hophead beer. I could see this as a session beer. Very nice.

On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Coppery amber color with a long lasting, creamy, tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is nutty with caramel and maybe a little bit of orangey hop influence. Flavor is deep dark caramel and maple syrup up front which melts into a piney resinous hoppy finish. Moderate bitterness. A little heavy on the palate for the style. Pretty good beer overall.

On tap@The Rake, London. A gloomy looking red tinged brown colour with a reasonable lingering tan head. Nose was sweetish with some citrusy hop and nut notes. Flavour had plenty of initial caramel and evolved into some resinous hoppage. Slight earthy quality. Ok in the bitterness department. Not the most subtle affair, but tasty enough.
