COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once a year Moonlight Meadery releases one of it’s prized barrel aged meads, Utopian, the release for 2014 known as batch #7, has spent 3 years aging in a hand selected Utopias® barrel from Boston Beer Co. This highly sought after mead sells out each year, with only 24 cases being released in 2014. The mead picks up lots of unique notes from the barrels, and becomes softer and more refined with the additional aging. The flavor, reminiscent of a fine cognac, makes for a great after dinner treat. The semi-sweet honey notes, play off the oak making this a one of a kind mead, savor slowly as the 18% ABV is well hidden.

What’s not to love about a 3 year old barrel aged mead... aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels no less. Fantastic.

Batch #7, thanks to my great friend Sam, wow deep honey and oak characteristics, floral, semi-sweet on the verge of being sweet. Delicious! Flavor lasts for ever.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2014 Alcohol and honey smell. Alcohol taste was a bit too heavy but there was some great sweet honey taste in there too with a mild pecan note that was pleasant.

Batch #7, aged for 3 years in the Sam Adams Utopias barrels, WOW!!! A semi-sweet on leading edge of being sweet, great complexity from the oak, and honey. Finish lasts for ever... this is worth it.

Deep honey in the nose, with a semi-sweet honey finish in flavor. Some heat, but not much. Crystal clear.

The aroma is a blend of oak and honey, aged and complex. The color is a medium straw with big legs that hang all the way down the edge of the glass. The flavor is honey, with oak, complex hint of oxidation in a good way... oh 3 years old, and off the chart. Find it if you can.

Uh don’t try this, it’s the worst, ok well not by a long shot, but don’t just don’t it’s wicked good. Just bought 2 bottles. I am evil. One to have tonight, and one to lay down for years to come.

Batch #7, deep golden hue, still, huge legs. The aroma is a blend of honey and oak notes. The honey is evident in the flavor, but wow does it mix well with the Utopias notes in the background, kind of like a sweet and smooth cognac. DELICIOUS.

375 ml clear glass bottle. Pours a clear gold with no head. This is a still mead. Very pleasant aroma of sweet honey with oak and some Utopias vapors. The flavor is sweet honey with oak, vanilla, and some brandy-like Utopias. Not at all rough on the palate despite its abv, although there is a some booziness to this mead. Very enjoyable!

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2013 Still clear light golden. Earthy champagne and honey aroma. Taste is sweet and tart with an earthy sweetness and a bit of a woody note. Too boozy hot.
