Tasted 8/18/11. Draft pint from the brewpub. Pours opaque brown with a khaki head. Aromas of fudge and cocoa. Medium bodied and dry. Good body and palate with fudge and chocolate notes. Subtle dark esters. Mild cocoa undertone. This is the way I like my porters! Tasty!

7/20/2011: Moonshine Fallout Porter... Aroma: Scorched malts; herbal hops. Appearance: Brown color, opaque; frothy beige head. Flavor: Soft butter; dry, mineral characteristic; weak chocolate and roast; scorched/burnt? Palate: Medium-bodied; soft; a bit watery. Overall: Okay porter, but lacking overall.

Draught sample (4.9% ABV) at Moonshine in Chicago, IL. Rating #4 for this beer.

Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Poured a cola brown with a grayish brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was verry sweet with caramel, some sweet dark grains and a bit of butterscotch. Flavor was similarly sweet with sweet dark grains, caramel, a bit of chocolate and a butterscotch finish.

Sampler flight on tap at Moonshine (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice roasty brown hue, gorgeous ruby edges, not opaque, actually near transparent but dark. A frothy light tan head dies to a decent sized ringer, laces ok. Aromas are touches of dry cocoa, brown malts, and some sweeter toffee, toast. Simpler. Maybe a touch of roast. Initial iis a big blast of brown malts and cocoa up front, surprisingly light bodied with a touch of orange, dry earthy brown malts, some bread, biscuits. Really light bodied porter with a kick of orange, earthy malts, and toast, some sweetness. Weird. A bit of a dissappointment. Finish is a touch of cocoa, smooth sweetness, some brown malts and oatmeal like sweetness. This doesn’t come together well. Probably the biggest dissappointment of the sampler (and it had the biggest hopes).
