Can [from Secret Euro Santa 2015] @ home. Opaque dark brown color, full sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, coffee, roasted malts, hops. Taste is a wonderful blend of hops and roasted malts. Some coffee, dark malts and a solid malt and hop bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Very nice!

From SIPS. Drank w Matt at home. Opaque brown-black. Light tan fizzy frothy head. Smells of coffee, heavy herb, wood, rye, bitter smoky almost mushroomy metallic smell. Like coffee mixed with grass jelly and Chinese herbal medicine. Big but not overdone. Taste is coffee (more bitter and burnt than roasted), smoky wood. Body is bitter, thin to medium, not much carbonation, herbal metallic aftertaste.

Can from SIPS at home with Steph before CNY. Pitch black pour with tan head. Aroma is very coffee with some burnt chocolate, a bit of hoppiness. Taste follows. Super burnt coffee-forward, in an interesting if not entirely pleasant way. Sort of like a very dialed down, and less balanced, TO ØL Black Malts Body Salts. There's definitely some hoppiness but again, the burnt coffee grounds dominate. Light body. A lot going on but it's not quite in concert.

Very good one, for sue. A lot of coffee at the nose, with a little caramel, hop presence, piney presence, chocolate. Chocolate and licorice in the taste, followed by hoppy bitterness and a Lot of coffee. Plenty of coffee, pure coffee delight. Silky mouthfeel with light to medium body.

Can from Coppers, Newcastle. Inky black with a large head of tan foam. It has a rich chocolate, liquorice and pine flavour with citrus notes, more pine and coffee on the finish. Excellent!

Can from Hop Burns & Black. Opaque very dark to black, tan head. Nose is very dry black coffee, burnt malts, dark dried fruit, plum, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, milky. Fruity and coffee. Taste is quite light bodied, burnt roasted malts, dry coffee. Lacks a bit of body to pull this off, but there’s some nice interesting fruity plum and coffee combination.

330ml can @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours dark with good tan head. Aroma is light coffee and dark roasted malts. Taste picks up where the aroma left off. Bitter dry roast with some hop moments. Bags of flavour. Decent.

Can at home. Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma is bug coffee, roasted malts, chocolate. Taste is coffee, roasted malts, slight smokiness, slight chocolate, bitter finish. Would like to try the double version of this.

Can. Black beer with a thick beige head and a pungent coffee smell that I caught as soon as I cracked the can open. Coffee is the dominant flavour as you may expect, with some earthy malt in there too. It’s a pity it’s not a mite richer in the mouth but it’s a fine beer.

Can from The Bottled, London - UK. Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and medium brown head. Smell: coffee attack, roasted malt and licorice. Grassy finish. Taste: medium body with good coffee taste. Roasted malt, caramel and licorice. Brown sugar and grassy notes. Good hoppy balance. (Maybe to hoppy for a stout but anyway I like it). Good attenuation. Aftertaste: grassy hoppy with coffee and licorice. Superb beer!
