Cask, keg and bottle conditioned;
Hoppy coffee stout originally brewed as a collaboration with Arbor Ales. The beer was so loved it was tweaked and continues as a rotating seasonal in collaboration with Clifton Coffee Company.

Oh, that’s interesting! Would you call it a stout? I’m not sure - it seems to walk the thin line between that and a BIPA. Nevertheless, it’s fine - licorice, coffee and, weirdly, shellfish notes on the nose. Pours charcoal black with a thin head but fat lace. One of many contradictions in this beer I would add. Flavour is fabulous - lime zest, lemonade, coffee grounds, damp earth, graprefruit, pine resin, burnt crispy bits from the bottom of a roast tin, and fresh, cold mango all combine in an epic agglomeration in the glass. What can I say? It rocks. It engenders bad puns, and I arbor a suspicion I’ll want moor of it in the very near future.

Dark brown with frothy tan head. Aromas of milk chocolate and watermelon on the nose. Rich citrus and watermelon with chocolate, then the coffee comes pounding in from the sidelines. Rich, fruity, smooth, coffee continues throughout melding perfectly with the malt and hops. V sessionable too.

Clear dark brown with winey red highlights, brown short lasting head. Fulfilling roasted malts, coffee bean, licorice, hint of toffee and hops. Quite bitter mixed with roasted malts, coffee and with a herbaceous and ashy ending. Well balanced

My Bottom Line:
This sublime Porter juxtaposes roasted coffee, dark chocolate and resinous hops until lush fruitiness takes over.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the black with dark brown hues.
-The aroma is spellbinding. Wealthy malts, coffee and vibrant hops peering through.
-The flavour profile is quite different from the aroma! Much more fruit driven, less roasty and sweet.
-Resinous hops come with citrusy tips as well.
-The cask mouthfeel is very enjoyable; soft yet full.

On cask at Ma Che Siete, Roma.

Cask handpull, The Salmon, Leicester, 16/11/12. Grey-beige top on glossy black. Intense aroma featuring...Blackjacks, burnt cinder toffee, Neopolitan ice cream flicked with fag ash. Gritty cocoa/filter coffee dregs on palate; more Blackjack, juicy strawberry chew and blackcurrant, earthy coffee, chargrilled veg, aniseed. Black IPA in my book, if such a thing exists. Big, big bang for your ABV buck; would’ve loved another but the missus was driving and whisked me protestingly back down the 69.

Bottle. It pours a reddish dark brown body, next to black. A dense, dark beige head sits on top. The aroma is nicely hopped, with coffee and roasted malts, really pleasant. Really good coffee flavor, roasted malts a nice bitterness and pine cones. Full body, soft and pleasant carbonation. Lasting roasted and bitter finish. A really pleasant and tasteful one, high quality. Would like more of this. 131018
