UPDATED: APR 11, 2012 Cask conditioned Handpump Bear & Staff London. A near black coloured beer which was ridiculously lively and took ages to pour and settle. It had a massive whitish head until it settled, and loads of lace. Good coffee flavours and aromas. Chocolate notes too and a milky character. Smooth and tasty. Score 3.7

Burnt and roasty aroma, some chocolate. Taste is similar, but more towards stale coffee grounds. A bit watery. Dry burnt finish. A touch minerally.
Rerate of same cask had a day earlier by Anna: Ruby glints, creamy head. Lively pleasant bitterness in the mouth. A lot of burnt roasted finish. Some minerals. Maybe a bit simple, but nice roast.

On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours black opaque with a creamy generous head. The nose has dark chocolate and cream. The taste has hazelnut, dry malt and a creamy astringent note. The palate has a medium to full body, a nice creamy texture but a dry astringent finish. Overall, great until the finish - shame!

Cask conditioned at The Crown, Oxford. Chestnut with cream head. Rich, nutty with a dose of coffee flavour balanced with vanilla and hazelnut. Smooth with full maltiness. Lovely beer, just right before the walk to the train station in the freezing cold, a real winter warmer.

Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest ’10. V. Dark Brown almost black with slight head. Heavy, malty notes with dark chocolate notes and husky coffee, thin hints of dark mollasses. Long and bitter later on, deep and intriguing and never lets up. Good stuff.
