660ml bottle [BBE:18 SEP 2015]

<> Really thick white head on a cloudy ruby red liquid. For a bitter, the aroma is surprisingly fruity, with slightly citrus, tropical notes. The flavour is quite roasty, and is reminiscent of many black IPA’s. Whilst the roast is more caramel and less burnt, the bitterness is high, so it mimics the sorts of flavours you might expect from a darker brew. A really nice beer which I wasn’t expecting to be as exciting and unique as it is.

Bottle from Cornelius. Murky amber/brown body with a thick beige head that holds well. Lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is toffee apple, wood and shower gel. Flavour of caramel, orange, lychee and a peppery fnish. Medium body with an oily texture. Lively fizz. Big flavour for 4.6% ABV.

Cask stillage at the Birmingham CAMRA festival 2014. Poured a murky light brown with a bubbly white head. The aroma is yeast, sweaty socks! The flavour is moderate bitter with a medicinal light aniseed hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. An interesting ale but I have had much better from Moor.

Draught @ Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush. Dark red to dark amber color, medium sized good lacing beige head. Smell and taste malts, quite bitter, a hint of spruce, quite dry in the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice.

On tap @ BrewDog Shepherds Bush. Slightly hazy copper/light brown. Decent little head. Cinnamon and muted cherry on the nose. One of those beers that starts with a refreshing sweetness, then hits you with a bitter counterattack. This isn’t terribly bitter but the change in taste profile is noticeable and quite clever. However this is a fairly average - or just above average - session beer if truth be told. Nice enough to try once.

Keg at BD Shep Bush. Lovely frothy creamy head. Malt and hops in balance on the nose. Light chewiness followed by medium hop bitterness. Minerals, caramel, dry medium bitter end.
