COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Special;
What started out as a little bit of fun quickly became the favourite of many die hard ale fans and has become permanent. Probably best described stylistically as a Californian IPA, this beer has all the rich malt and fruit flavours of a Barley Wine combined with the hoppy crispness of a Pale Ale. And as best said by one of its biggest fans, "Hoppiness = Happiness."

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2015 Bottle, 12C. Almost clear pale amber (leaving the cm of sludge at the bottom of the bottle) with a lovely white head that lasts and leaves clumps. Aroma of grapefruit, flowers, peach, honeydew melon, toffee, light bread, a little mint/ eucalyptus. Lightish bodied, very soft mouthfeel despite a fair bit of carbonation. Not really used to having an English beer that seems lighter than it is. Fruity sweet with a little firm toffee and a bit more bread. Citrus flavours - kumquat as well as grapefruit - are distinct and there’s a little pepper. Quite bitter, but the bitterness emerges seamlessly. Excellent. [4.1]

Growler from a keg. Even more vibrant fruit but that softness of the bottle conditioned version is not there and the flavours are a little less well integrated. Still very good indeed. Leaving score as is, but [4.0].

Can. Superb golden colour with a tall, frothy white head. Hoppy aroma, I smell grapefruit, passion fruit, peach and citrus herbs. Medium body and carbonation. Not particularly long which is surprising. Lots of bitterness, though not to the extreme. Also rich malt. A very good beer.

Visuellement un peu trouble. Très aromatiques, avec une amertume net (pamplemousse) en fin de bouche sans être envahissante. Une très bonne IPA.

33cl can from Prohibition Wines. Hazy orange gold colour with a white head. Very hoppy aroma. Oily texture and a taste of resin and blood orange. There is a sharply bitter finish and a long-lasting aftertaste of bitter orange marmalade. A really good beer with a taste somewhere between a barley wine and an APA.

0.33l can. Smells a lot just popping the can. It’s really hoppy and piney fruity in the room. On the pour it’s kinda blurry, golden orange in color and on the top there’s a nice medium sized quite side clinging white head. Piney and zesty with clementine and blood oranges on the nose. Quite fresh and nice aroma. It tastes a little older than it smells unfortunately. A bit closed in flavors. Not directly metallic, more hop pungent. It has a nice oily texture in the mouth and it’s just above average on the relatively large bubbled carbonation. Grassy and bitter, a little birch, sap. Wish I could have tried this a little fresher. Can see from the cap that the can was made in December.. 23.07.2016
