Cask, Special;
What started out as a little bit of fun quickly became the favourite of many die hard ale fans and has become permanent. Probably best described stylistically as a Californian IPA, this beer has all the rich malt and fruit flavours of a Barley Wine combined with the hoppy crispness of a Pale Ale. And as best said by one of its biggest fans, "Hoppiness = Happiness."

Bottle, 12C. Almost clear pale amber (leaving the cm of sludge at the bottom of the bottle) with a lovely white head that lasts and leaves clumps. Aroma of grapefruit, flowers, peach, honeydew melon, toffee, light bread, a little mint/ eucalyptus. Lightish bodied, very soft mouthfeel despite a fair bit of carbonation. Not really used to having an English beer that seems lighter than it is. Fruity sweet with a little firm toffee and a bit more bread. Citrus flavours - kumquat as well as grapefruit - are distinct and there’s a little pepper. Quite bitter, but the bitterness emerges seamlessly. Excellent.

Besides Thornbridge Halcyon, this is the best IPA from England I’ve had. Juicy citrus and grapefruit hop notes in the aroma and flavor, well balanced by the caramel malts. The color was slightly off, like a butterscotch amber, not quite what I was expecting. Nice abv, could be slightly more, would love to see it in the 7-8% range, but 6.5% is fine. Finish is bitter and resiny, great full mouthfeel. As this one warmed up a bit, some lovely caramel malt character came out, making the finish even more smooth. Really nice.

Draught @ Drink Baar
Aroma is rather fruity with caramel. Lots of caramel. Also some resin and toffee. Flavour is fruity with berries and gooseberry bush. Aroma was nice but flavour is too much on the harsh bitter side.

Aroma a bit grassy, dry, some honey, not much of a citrus. Taste very bitter, dry and hoppy. Long bitter aftertaste. The bitterness makes it a bit less drinkable. Overall its very good quality beer.
