COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Style: Black Ale Draught ABV: 4.7% Illusion is our latest creation, which is inspired by the awesome new beer style created in the States known as Imperial Black Ale. We really admire the profile of this new style but wanted a session strength version. We brewed ours at 4.5% instead of the typical 8%+, but wanted to retain the unique flavour profile. We sourced the special malt required from Germany and the hops from America to create a beer of stunning depth and complexity. The beer is black in appearance but lacks the acrid flavours associated with all other dark beers. This is achieved through use of the special German malt. The hop aromas and flavours are very intense, which we achieve through a major dose of dry-hopping in the cask. The result is a beer that wraps all the wonderful hop profiles of a pale ale inside a silky black exterior. It is truly an Illusion that deceives your eyes and dazzles your taste buds. Due to the rare nature of these special ingredients it is a limited release beer, but we are looking at making it more regularly available if possible.

660 ml bottle @ Christianssand Brygghus. A dark amber body with a dense beige head. Aroma of light roasted malt, caramel and fruity hops. Flavor is nice roasted malt, citric fruity with pleasant bitterness. Nothing really complicated here, but delicately balanced mix of dark malt and hops at a modest alcohol level. Nice, tasty, pleasant and impressive.

Drank at PP the day after cousin Jonathan's wedding. Dark brown-black with beige watery lightly sudsy head. Dark malt, watery and bitter. Bite of acidity.

Can from SIPS at PP. Light black pour with foamy head. Aroma and taste are impressively big for a lighter beer. Not bad but maybe had too high expectations.

330mL can from Booze Bud. BBE July2016 Creamy tan head sits atop a black body - spot on. Good nose - toasty roasty nutty aroma with big hit of grass, piney, citrus hops. Medium bodied, smooth slick texture, holds more weight than abv suggests. Body packs plenty of flavour - burnt nuts, cocoa, blackened sugars, grassy, leafy, grapefruit hops with firm bitterness. Drying finish, goes down a treat. Mid-strength black IPA - oh yeah, this works!

Look: dar brown, cloudy. Aroma: ripe tropical fruits, rotten oranges. Taste: dry, moderate to moderate light bitterness. Flavour: ash, rotten fruits, hops. Good but with slightly unbalanced rotten hops.

Black in the glass. A bit simple but not bad overall, specially if you look to the somehow lower ABV.

At Billie’s Bierkafetaria. It was just a matter of time before some or other ’new school’ craft brewery would come up with a black session IPA I suppose, and this is the first one I encountered. Very thick and frothy, lacing, moussy, pale greyish beige head, blackish colour but still translucent under bright light, ruby hue. Dank IPA aroma of mouldy grapefruit, hemp, tangerine, black pepper, wormwood, charcoal, walnut, haemoglobin, bayleaf. Soft onset dominated by dried seaweed- and cured meat-like umami flavors with a touch of dried fig sweetishness and underlying basic sourishness; fairly sharpish carbo, very nutty and toasted malt bittersweetness, becoming coffeeish roasted bitter in the end but then halted by a lively, aromatic hop bouquet, bittering, spicy and dried citrus peel-like, long and fragrant, a bit earthy. I like BIPAs and this one is packed with flavor, certainly for a beer at ’session’ strength.

From a can. Delicious as f$&k, this is great becoming one of my favourite styles, love the balance of the roasted flavours with the hops.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a huge head. Aroma is loaded with pine and tropical fruits. A tropical fruit taste gives way to a strong, smokey coffee like taste.

Bottle @ Elfo’s Pub, Perugia, Italy. Pours with a pitch black colour, big frothy long lasting off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, with strong notes of herbs and some hay; a little roasty too. Taste is medium to heavy bitter, slightly sweet. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Great "session" bipa!!

Can at home. Malty, great aroma, roast, light bitter, citrus fruits. Fantastic black IPA. These Moors cans really are something.
