Style: Black Ale Draught ABV: 4.7% Illusion is our latest creation, which is inspired by the awesome new beer style created in the States known as Imperial Black Ale. We really admire the profile of this new style but wanted a session strength version. We brewed ours at 4.5% instead of the typical 8%+, but wanted to retain the unique flavour profile. We sourced the special malt required from Germany and the hops from America to create a beer of stunning depth and complexity. The beer is black in appearance but lacks the acrid flavours associated with all other dark beers. This is achieved through use of the special German malt. The hop aromas and flavours are very intense, which we achieve through a major dose of dry-hopping in the cask. The result is a beer that wraps all the wonderful hop profiles of a pale ale inside a silky black exterior. It is truly an Illusion that deceives your eyes and dazzles your taste buds. Due to the rare nature of these special ingredients it is a limited release beer, but we are looking at making it more regularly available if possible.

A perfect black IPA. Lovely hoppy aroma with a nice mild coffee roasted malt twist. I love this beer!

realmente sorprendente, una ipa con un toque tostado que hace del todo el conjunto una muy buena cerveza

Appearance: black, clear with a medium sized and rather quickly dropping light tan head that leaves great lacing on the glass.
Aroma: very hoppy, resinous, citrus, with a little bit of roastiness. Notes of caramel and coffee are in the back, very subtle.
Taste: tastes almost like a regular IPA at first. It’s pretty hoppy, citrusy, there’s pine, resin, some sweet notes and then comes the roastiness. So this is basically how a beer in this style shoud taste. In many Black IPAs the roastiness is too big, here it’s on almost perfect level. Medium to high, long lasting bitterness.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, medium to soft carbonation.
Overall: I really enjoyed this one. It’s a light, highly drinkable beer with great hoppy aroma, nice, almost pure IPA-ish taste with just a hint of roastiness. This one is one of the best beers in this style that I’ve ever had. Highly recommended!

Clear dark brown beer, big irregular beige crackling head, pretty stable, patches of lacing. Aroma: very hoppy, resinous, citrus, quite some grapefruit, soft roast, some caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish start, lots of citrus, grapefruit, pretty bitter, hint of chocolate. Aftertaste: bitter, citrus, grapefruit, resinous, coffee notes, grassy, very refreshing hops, man this is good stuff!

Awesome aroma, hops, coffee roasted malts and chocolate all mingle into one to produce a nice sweet aroma. Bitter sweet and smooth. Finnish has a nutty component just slightly. Very sessionable.

660ml bottle bought at Ale&Hop, Barcelona. Aroma: coffee, fresh malts. Appearance: dark brown, soft bronze tones. Creamy foam, quite a contrast between liquid and foam. Seems like a cappuccino. Taste: coffe, dark chocolate. Palate: not much alcoholic persistance, hoppy ending. Overall: this is great stuff.

Bottle at Ale&Hop in Barcelona. It pours brown and gets black in the glass. Floral and fruity aromas coming out form the creamy beige foam, which persists in the glass. Roasty and coffee palate and a bitter ending that persists in the aftertaste. Very recommended!
