This is one big beer. Forget the ABV, which is just a by-product of the passion. James and Josh from the Queen’s Arms, Corton Denham, and I (hence JJJ) have a shared passion for great beers and were lamenting the lack of true IPAs in the UK. So we decided to brew our own version of heaven. Double IPA was just not good enough - we needed a triple IPA. Triple the gravity, triple the colour, and more than triple the hops. With nearly 700 kg of malt and over 11.5 kg of hops this beer is big in every sense. In fact, it was so big and hoppy that it broke our pump! Deep copper in colour, over the top in aroma and flavour, but somehow still remaining (somewhat) balanced, this beer is not for the faint of heart. And if you don’t like hops, don’t even think about it. But if you do, dare we say this may be the best beer you’ll ever taste. We like it so much that upon racking we decided to make it a permanent part of the range.

On bottle at Håndverkerstuene . Golden color, ok foam. Aromas of hops, quite a lot of caramel aromas. Full body & high complexity . High sweetness, some bitterness. Low carbonation. Enjoyable, but very sweet for IPA.

Draught. Hazy, deep amber liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of blackberries, biscuit, caramel, grapefruit and pine. A bit too malt forward for my liking. Taste is dry and medium to high bitter with notes of red berries and caramel. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Not hoppy enough to support all the malt.

Draught at. Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Hazy copper colour, rich head. Intense aroma of tropical fruits and strawberries. Sweet with soft mouthfeel and full body. Sauteed tropical fruit and salted lychee with honey and white pepper heat atop. Very bitter finish, but well integrated ans without inkyness. Nice new wave English Imperial IPA.

Draught at Bishops Arms, Örebro, 25.7.2012. Murky, orange-brown colour with a small, creamy off-white head. Fruity aroma with caramel, hops and grasses with notes of berries and pine needles. Sweet and fruity taste. Full body with an oily texture. Bitter finish with hops, pine needles and grass with notes of grape fruits and a good amount of alcohol. Strong DIPA - almost like a barley wine. Good.

Bottle. Pours a nice deep amber almost red with a tiny attempt at a head. Delicious hop aroma, pine, resin, mango and orange, toffee, smells a bit like boiled sweets. Taste has more of the same with a solid caramel and toffee malt backbone. Quite syrupy and sweet with a long bitter finish, slightly under-carbonated for me. Very tasty

Amber color, white head. Sweet, hoppy scent. Berry, alcohol, hoppy, bitter taste. Very high bitterness. Medium mouthfeel.
Way too bitter and too evident alcohol for me.

On tap at BA in Örebro. It poured a very hazy dark brown liquid with a minimal head. Fairly mild smell with some grassy hops. The taste was allot more intense with grass, resin, pine and sweet malts. An east coast DIPA bordering on an american BW.

[cask at the Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh] Deep, hazy orangey-bronze from the cask pour, nice white head. Aroma of sweet, sticky caramel and resinous hop. Really syrupy on the flavour – perfect on cask, as the resinous hop flavours really come out. It’s like drinking that sticky amber you see running down tree trunks, trapping insects. Yet despite that – and the abv – it’s really very smooth. One of the best beers I’ve had this year, and a real shame it’s now so rare on cask in the UK [14072012]
