3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Jacob23_5 (62) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 19, 2012
Botttle. Pours deep black with very fast-fading tan head. Aromas of vanilla and chocolate, almost a sweet marmite, with banana leaf and redcurrant notes. The banana is quite pronounced on the flavour, along with a bit more coffee and chocolate than is on the nose. A pleasant CO2 tingle on the palate. Very nice beer indeed.

On cask at the Marble Arch. A black beer with a decent tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, coffee and roasty malt. Similar flavours with alcohol fairly present and lingering roasty malt. Moderate carbonation, an oily mouth-feel and a little CO2 prickle. Quite dry to finish with a hint of apple seed.

Pours a deep near-black with no head at all and a sweet prune aroma. Chocolate and roasted malt flavour, plenty of date, prune, and all that good stuff. Perhaps the merest hint of carbonation, medium body. This is dangerously sippable, very well-balanced, rich, and tasty.
