Barley-wine-like sweet aroma. Sweet and fruity in the taste too, and undeniably quite strong. We blew hot and cold during this one. At it’s best it was fantastic (3.6+), but it was a bit over-powering, and we lost the details after a while. Should rerate.

Nearly black, small brief head. Lovely rich roast. Finish beautifully roasty, lovely coffee tones. Smooth palate, carbonation pleasant. The finish is the big win. Lovely well balanced beer, no sign of any alcohol. Great one.

Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 11th Feb 2009. Pure black with not much of a head. Rich, wine-like aroma with evident alcohol but tempered by sweet molasses and malt notes. Good taste of stewed fruits, sultanas and tart berries. Palate for sipping not quaffing. Good stuff.

Dark brown color, small brown head. Aroma of coffee, licorice and cough syrup. Flavor has licorice, roasted malts and coffee. But easier to drink than it sounds. Liquerish palate. Dry, slight sweet touch of sweet licorice. Not much hops. Pleasant.
