Rye adds a distinctive, spicy flavour to beer that is both interesting and enjoyable. It’s even better when paired with smoked malt. If you’re not used to smoked beer it may come as a bit of a surprise. Don’t worry, by the third one you’ll be hooked and book a ticket to Bamberg. Book an extra one for me please.

Shared by martjoobolut, thanks! Hazy orange, beige head. Nose is smoke, malts, sweetness, spicy-fruity notes. Flavor is smoke, malt, oranges, grapefruity hops in the smoothly bitter finish. The smoke accentuates the beer nicely.

Aroma has sweet mix of fruits, apricot and smoked wood. Feels somewhat malty. has sweet smoky notes, some peat, wood, fruits, apricot and hints of toffee. Also faint traces of licorice. Mildly smoked but something does not add up here. Perhaps it is the sweetness.

600ml bottle (Koht, Tallinn)
Thinnish elastoplast phenolic aroma. Hazy orange, small head with odd tapioca-like visuals (round blobs surrounded with cream between them), taste follows the aroma closely. Thin palate, crisp carbonation, almost feels watery. Very simple smoke/phenol/elastoplast finish. I need more from a smoked beer, this is not an integrated whole, more of a gimmick.

.66 bottle. Broen amber hazy. Beef jerky, pale malty. Light smokey. Med light body. Bit watery, but sort of nice. Likea britt pale with smoke. Duh.

Port St Beerhouse 27 Jan 13. Fra keg. Mørk aprikosfarget. Lavt tett skum. Litt lacing. Hint av bacon i aromaen. Smaken er bacon med innslag av frukt. Godt gjemt men en aner litt syrlige epler. Tørr syrlig ettersmak. Røyken ligger under hele tida.
