Somerland Gold is another regular medal winner. If you like your beers golden, hoppy and refreshing then this is for you, but be careful - it goes down quickly for 5%. Pale and Wheat malts are jostling for your attention with Challenger and Northern Brewer hops. At this strength our English yeast leaves hints of honey.

[cask at Red Squirrel, Edinburgh] Hazy gold beer, puffy white head. Floral aroma, with a mix of yeasty sweetness and lemon zing – pretty interesting nose. Orange and lemon came out on top on the flavour, some sweeter pineapple fruit, yeast too. Interesting stuff – highly refreshing, the finish in particular was long and getting on for being sharp [15022012]

At Red Squirrel. Golden with white head. Nice grassy hop flavour and delicious malty presence. Very nice.

On cask at The Red Squirrel. Pours a slightly hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of peach, pineapple and caramel. A nice Belgian yeast character with peach, pine and, pineapple. Nicely bitter with alcohol fairly present and a chewy mouth-feel. Lovely.

14/04/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (cask). Spillata a pompa.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2012 Bottle at home. Slightly hazy yellow/amber, thin white head. Slight cat piss, big floral hops on the nose. Juicy tropical fruit palate, great hop character with a moderate bitter linger. Fantastically balanced! 7 4 7 4 17 3.9 Unfined cask at Bow. Cask at the Magpie. Deep gold with a white head and a malt-sweet, slightly floral aroma with fruity hints. Palate is well balanced with a good alcohol bite and a fruity, faintly honey and pineapple body. Somehow reminiscent of a good hell-bock.

660ml brown bottle with 5.5% ABV. Hazy golden pour. Has a full white head, very clingy foam that stays throughout the glass. Fruity nose, some sweetness, notes of lemon and some orange zest, a trace of pine hop resins. Taste has some wheat malts that add some tang, nice fruity middle, orangey, light but pleasant hop notes that are grapefruity, zesty and resiny. Light bitterness, some grapefruity and leafy hop aftertastes. Light bodied, good mouthfeel and pleasant natural feeling carbonation. Overall a nice quaffer, good use of hops keeps it refreshing. A pricey golden ale for sure, but I feel anything but ripped off, this is a solid beer.

Bottle, at Cole’s house, thankfully from a Maudite glass; shared with Cole. Pours hazy orange/gold, 1-finger white head, very poor lacing. Nose is modestly hoppy; juicy navel orange and light pineapple. Flavours of earth, yeast, wheat, rather watery to be honest. An okay brew, but not the most interesting Blonde I’ve had this week.

Pours amber with a thin head and low retention. Aroma abounds with the smell of yeast and English hops, both grassy and citrus. Flavour is a little unbalanced the bitterness comes in early and then reappears in the finish leaving the mid palate thin and sweet. Drinkable . Not bad.
