Looks good in the glass and is a dark almost black coloour with a creamy tan head that is very small. Burnt chocolate and malt nose that is not overly strong. Burnt chocolate and toffee flavours in the taste. Not as robust and complex as it looks. mmmbeer (745), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2009 1 pint .9oz. bottle (from Liquid Solutions) served in shaker- poured jet black, semi transparent when held to a light source with a very dark ruby tint, low carbonation, a white ring around the glass and several frog eyes upon the liquid surface for a head. Aroma of wheat toast, some light chocolate, and a hint of motor oil (I’m a gearhead, it’s a positive smell). Hits the mouth with an easy medium body, malt is there and has been nicely toasted, middle holds up well, finish instantly vanishes. Somewhat drying. 2 more styles left, 10 days on the road and I’m home for once, the BBQ is almost done, the beer is cold, and the Pack is ROLLING against the Lions. What more could I want? travita (1908), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Very dark, nearly black, with a sudsy off-white head that fell quic, leaving large bubbles around the edge of the surface. Light aroma of chocolate and toast. Flavor is a little molasses sweetness with coffee and chocolate. Finishes dry. Palate is a bit thin. I was surprised by how low a percentage this is. The aroma’s quite earthy, with a hint of molasses. Likewise, this drinks with a musty, dirty essence, and almost coffee thingy to go with it. At 3.4% this is more than sessionable! BMan1113VR. Pours a nice looking dark amber/brown with red hues and off-white head. Aroma is somewhat toasty malt with faint dark roast. Flavor is just a watery taste of wet grain and stale coffee. Mouth feel is very watery with low-medium carbonation. Overall, not bad but has a watery mouthfeel.
