Caramel nose with a bit of pine. Pours clear dark brown with an off-white head. Medium-light body, moderate carbonation. Taste of nuts and caramel. Some roasty note show up in the finish, along with a grainy quality and a bit of herbal hoppy bitterness. This would be OK as a grocery store beer, and I might get more if it’s handy, but I’m not going out of my way to acquire any more. bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jan 22, 2007 bottle from cairo liquors ($3.50). almost completely opaque black, just a hint of clear dark red on the edges of the bottom of the pint...fairly smll tan head subsides quickly leaving a little lacing. aroma is mostly roast with a touch of caramel, but is fairly mild (at least at this temp). body is suprisingly light, with flavor dominated by the roast and finished with a nice clean english hop finish. not bad, and very drinkable if you don’t mind the amount of roast (which i don’t). Still, nothing all that great. MrChris (110), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jan 20, 2007 Modest Caramel nose. Pours dark ruby red with moderate tan head. Caramel taste with some frutyness. Watery on the palate. I can imagine the folks in England pounding down lots of this brew ‘cause it is so easy drinking.
