Bottle. Near black with short lasting head. Roasted malts steal the picture, mineral, dry finish. Average.

Light roasted caramel and coffee aromas with some smoky hints. Tastes coffee and pepperish. Dry metallic finish and lightly carbonated. My first mild ale, which is no dissappointment.

Poured a dark brown to black color with red edges and a very nice head that provided rings of lacing on down the glass. The aroma was somewhat of coffee. The flavor was light roasted coffee with some cardboard in there. Mouthfeel was moderately bodied but somewhat thin for the amount of flavor. Carbonation was low.

Appearance: Near black with garnet highlights pours with a nice tan head which lingers and leaves attractive lace Aroma: Crisp Roast notes with clean minerally background with some chocolatey and faint yeasty notes. No hop aroma at all. As the beer warms up licorice and coffee notes show up Palate: Light, slightly spicy, bone dry finish with a finish reminscent of black malt. Very well balanced Flavors: Strongly bent towards roastiness the malt flavors are complex with some sweet malt which is quickly dominated by the roast character. Chocolate and coffee flavors are present. Again as the beer warms up some licorice and hop flavors show through. Overall: Wow! what a fantastic beer Smells like a dry stout but the body is light enough to be a great mild. The character continually changes as the beer warms up. Great session beer for all seasons especially slightly chilly spring evenings.

Bottled. Aroma of strong licorice and hints of coffee. Dary ruby color, light brown irregular head, good lace. Light sweet, bitter, roasted, loads of licorice, coffee finish. Bit sandy mouthfeel and light. Very amazing and flavorful beer for just 3.4 ABV. Should try this on cask some day.

Walnut colored with no head. Very clear. I noted sweet molasses with light coffee hints in the aroma along with roasted grains. The flavor is easy with roasted malts, coffee, and very light, well balanced, hop bitterness. Hints of light sweetness are also present. Light bodied, even a bit on the crisp side. Enjoyable.

A very nice malt dominated brew. Rich, without being overpowering, there is a gentle fruitiness, both on the nose and on the palate, which nicely balances the roasted malt which is typical of this style. Bottled, Victoria Wine Kelso.

Very dark brown with a small off-white head. Faint sour aroma with some chocolate in the background. The taste is sour and ashy with a gentle chocolate finish. I had this down as a porter.
