Bottle (500ml). Poured a extremely dark (almost black) with opaque highlights and a tanned, dense frothy head which lasted well. Aroma was of dark chocolate, dark malts, molasses, raisins, prunes and some nuts (light) in the back. Taste was of strong coffee, dark chocolate, burnt malts with a smoky/nutty finish. Light bodied with soft carbonation, a watery texture, creamy mouthfeel and good length finish. A very well balanced mild, one of my favorites.

1/13/2008: Moorehouse’s Black Cat pours a walnut brown color and has a lasting foamy mocha-colored head (nice lacing). It has a light molasses aroma with some yeastiness to it. The flavor is roasty and dry, maybe even a bit oxidized. This beer tastes mildly rich and some bite, but it is too thin in the body (although it is pretty smooth on the palate). This is a decent beer with a fun name.

500ml bottle (Alc. 3.4% by vol.) from my sister. Thank you Eryn. I appreciate it! Rating #222 for this beer...

It’s a really nice black ale, almost black and with a light brown head. It has nice notes of roasted malt and coffee in both aroma and flavour, in which I also find bitter chocolate. Uhhhhmmm it’s charming, and it only has 3,4%, but the taste is full and rich. Very nice.

This is a nice, tasty, drinkable beer. It’s almost black, a little bubbly, with a decent, light tan head that dissipates to a foamy top. The aroma is mild roasted malt, spice, toast, faint hints of chocolate and coffee, with a faint light porter quality. The taste is mild and smooth, but persistent flavour with good, full body and nice complexity, a light fizziness and definite cola and root beer elements. It has subtle, but complex flavours. It’s similar to Cooper’s Dark Ale in some ways but much more complex, full-bodied, and stronger tasting.

Jet black colour with cream coloured thin head. Aroma is of dark, bitter cocoa and is also a little toasted and smokey. Nice texture, a bit on the oily side. The flavour has elements of bitter cocoa and coffee and an overall smokey flavour.

A porter-like aroma. Taste is pretty nice. A little graininess. Not heavy. A little bit of chocolate in the finish. Nice.

A lovely dark brown to black colour, with a top bitter and toasted flavour of caramel and some sort of dark chocolate.Gritty but mellow and as all good ales are, great on the stomach.A winning ale it is,and with such a low alchohol content,.

#800 and finishing off all the styles with this one. Chocolatey with hints of caramel and vanilla, with notes of coffee. Pours dark brown with a little to no head. Very roasty flavor, smooth, with a dry finish. I’m guessing most milds are not so dark and roasty. Not bad.
