Nightoneobob (37), USA Apr 16, 2003 Terrific example of a dark mild. Great roasty taste and appropriate hop level. Very drinkable session beer. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand Apr 6, 2009 Wow...really wished i hadn’t shared this now....i’ think i’ll get some more this beer it’s fantastic! Amazing nose on it, roasted chocolate....this is dead set the best mild i’ve had, there’s no way you’d know it was 3.4% because it has such a full body...it’s also got a great hoppy finish that i wasn’t expecting too....i need to try this on cask! shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 17, 2004 Bottle: Pour is black and oily with virtually no head. The aroma is malt and a hint of chocolate. The taste is a delicious and refreshing bitter malt. Outstanding flavor with no offensive aftertaste. Just great. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Feb 22, 2009 1/14/09 From the bottle. Aroma is smoky, peaty, with a light background of semisweet molasses. Appearance is clear brown with a well maintained cream colored head. Flavor is light roast molasses. Mouthfeel is grainy, and light in body and carb texture. Overal, very cool and complex for a beer with zero agressiveness. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA May 24, 2007 The aroma is simply heavenly, with strong hints of toffee and chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Color is a beautiful dark brown with fine-bubbled and fairly persistent head. Flavor is on the thin side, but it is malty and smoky, more like a stout or porter than a mild ale. Aftertaste has a little bit of hop bitterness. This beer is the cat’s meow! alebrewer (121), Mentor, Ohio, USA Sep 12, 2002 Wonderful aroma with a nice clean taste. Very good example of a dark mild. Wakie (612), Centreville, Virginia, USA Jun 27, 2004 A nice darker beer that left an interesting smoked taste in my mouth. Kind of a blend of coffee and smoked foods. I must admit I missed the chocolate in it. ARMed (485), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 18, 2003 This is a very good mild poter that tastes very similar to Samuel Smiths Taddy Porter, though not as complex and full-bodied. Smells like an oatmeal stout and pours with an exceptional whitish brown frothy head full of small bubbles. Moderate lacing. Smooth and lightly carbonated. Deep black as the name would suggest emphasizes the british chocolate malt used. Could be a little more full-bodied, but very tasty and quite refreshing. Might be a little more tasty with a little extra hop flavor. Very little alcohol makes it extremely drinkable. I am not going to kill this beer due to the fact that it might be a little weak and watered down. I believe this was the intent of the brewmaster and he was able to meet his overall goal.
