2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Jan, 2003 In cask form this won Supreme Champion Beer of Britain in 2000. In the bottle it lacks character. It’s pleasant enough, for sure, but for some real kickass Mild in the bottle try Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby. [2.4]
Oct, 2012 500ml brown glass bottle from Morrisons. £1.50. Good powdery chocolate whiff and flavour. Little nip of hop and burnt barley bitterness in the swallow. A decent drinking beer, and with plenty of character and taste for a 3.4% abv. Good enough. [3.0]

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pored a dark brown with ruby highlights. Clear with a tan head that quickly disolved. Hints of chocolate and moderate maltiness, also some background hints of raisin, no hop aroma. Light bodied with low carbonation, hints of chocolate and some wet papery oxidation, probably due to age. Overall a nice mild, would like to try a fresher version.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
@ Greens Discount Liquor / Columbia SC --- Clear very dark ruby with a tiny rim head, no lace. Taste is light malt that quickly into the palate where a thin veneer of roasted chocolate adds body to the brew. The finish is more smooth than hoppy. This is the epitome of session beer. I could drink several 17 oz. bottles in one sitting without missing a beat. Also good with cheese and white crackers, and it even works well with sliders from White Castle. Very successful at what it attempts to be.

A classic mild at the right gravity sampled on the first hot day of the year. Roasted aroma, big creamy head, the taste belies its strength. Black cherry, hints of coffee and chocolate, toasted muffins, really nice.
