Med dark brown color. Very strong woody and chocolate character that I didn’t really care for. Malty, dry, not very subtle and not to my taste.

My Bottom Line:
This cushy Dark Mild shares raisin-y bread pudding notes amongst roasted cereals before moving into a balancing leafy hop finish laced in blackberry fruitiness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam lingers atop the ruby-hinged darkness.
-This is superbly drinkable AND never frail-bodied.
-The fruitiness is akin to fieldberries, prunes, raisins, etc. But it is subtle throughout.
-The flavour profile is perfectly balanced.
-There’s lots going on in this one and it all comes together in the finish.
-This is a great lunchtime pint with a meat pie.

On cask at The Eagle and Child (Oxford) and The Mitre (Cambridge).

(Cask): Black in colour, tinges of red with a small but lasting tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Smooth flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, nuts and a little coffee. Only difference to the bottle is it’s less carbonated and more smooth.

Half-pint by gravicask, shared with Finn at NWAF ’13. Clear rosewood coloured body. Naked surface. Earthy malts to the nose with hints of liquorice. Dark malty taste with a peaty touch. Short-lived roasted bitter finish. Decent enough considering the low abv (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

Dark brown, ruby edges, dense yellowy white head, good lacing
Aroma - soft roasted malts, light burnt toast
Taste of dark chocolate, dark malts, roasted malts, lot of flavour for 3.4%
Palate - thin to medium body, smooth. Finish of bitter roast
Overall - Good mild, maybe a bit over roasty

Black and smoked ale with a thick creamy head on top. Smoky aroma with is more prevalent in its taste, and very pleasant.

Was surprised at this being fairly bland-tasting. Looked a nice pint, not a lot of aroma to it. Had a thin but lasting head. Not unpleasant, just a bit mediocre to my taste.
