Dark, refreshing beer with a distinct chocolate malt flavour and a smooth hoppy finish.

Cask. A pitch black mild, burnt to a crisp. Great roasted malt character, decent dry flavor and finish. Almost more like a porter than a mild, but light and very drinkable. Excellent.

Cask, gravity, at Luton BF ’10. Wasn’t very keen on the bottled version. This was very dark brown, near black, with a small off white head. Faint aroma of sulphur and sweet malt. Watery ash taste. Slight bitterness. Not worth the wait, to be honest.

Cask Dark cola-like body, small offwhite foam. Muted aroma; sweet nutty malts, faint floral hop. Low carbonation, medium body, oily kind of texture. Mild roasted nut flavour on the body, toffee sweetness, slightly treacle-like. Floral hops on a reasonably bitter finish. Decent dark bitter.

Cask at GBBF 2009. Very dark brown colour with a off white head. Good smooth roast aroma, the taste is off a light coffee. Good smooth bitter finish. A real good mild.

Handpulled cask at the Moon and Sixpence, Hatch End. Very dark brown/chestnut with a healthy off white head. Good smooth roast/smoke choc balance with plentyy of hops for a mild coming through in the finish. What a session beer!

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Pitch black, with a tawny glow and a soft tan head; peaty and smoky aroma, like a good Islay malt whishy, with undertones of chocolate malts; milky texture, dry at first, then a sweet sugar rush, followed by chocolate milk shake; leading to a dry, slightly nutty finish. A very satisfying mild, punching way above its weight.

Cask. At The Old Fountain. Deep hazy ruby-brown with a large-ish mottled beige/tan head. Nutty, dry, slightly syrupy aroma - no alcohol detectable at all. Nice medium-roasty taste, nutty, oily, dry, with a light peatiness. Light, lively mouthfeel, no acidity or heaviness at all, it dances off your palate with a whisper of dry roastiness - this really is a classic light roasty mild, perfect session beer.

Gravity at The Bree Louise, London
Red-mahogany color. A good mix of (light) malt and caramel, lightly fruity too; luckily there is no roasted malt, unfortunately there is a light metallic touch. The final, well bitter, is also a bit harsh. Enjoyable.
