Dark, refreshing beer with a distinct chocolate malt flavour and a smooth hoppy finish.

[Cask at the Oakford Social CLub, Reading] Large soft creamy head with a hint of coffee. Beer itself is rather bitter for a mild; also rather watery. Some red fruits come through later. Vary easy drinking, and flavours improved as I drank more - the second pint was nicer than the first.

Cask-conditioned at the Edgar Wallace, London WC2 16/5/08. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Slightly roasted aroma with some bitter chocolate. Light mouth feel with a touch of fruit and coffee, before a slightly sweet finish. Ok.

Cask @ Battersea Beer Festival ’08. Pours dark red / brown, thin bubbly head. Aroma is smoky, roasted malts. Taste is earthy, breadlike, dark malts, slight sweetness. Not bad, but could be better.

Cask @ Battersea Beer Festival 2008. Nose is perfumed, floral and malty with a hint of roasted malts. Pours a dark red/brown beer with a small frothy. Soft mouth feel and delicate. Sweetness in the finish. Too simpkle.

Pours near black with reddish hues with light tan head. Tastes of bread, earthy malt, caramel, and pepper. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty nice.

Gravicask at The Bricklayers Arms Lancashire Fest, 14th Sept 2007. Near black in colour with a meaty aroma - made me think of salami. Flavour is a heady mix of roast coffee, dark chocolate, rich fruit and smoked meat. Sligthy thin palate, but then it is a mild. Overall, very good indeed.

Cask condiioned - handpump - JDW Northampton. A black coloured beer with a nice white head. The aroma is ashy and slightly Earthy. The taste is lightly roasty and there is some sweetness, tobacco and wood. An intruiging beer.

Cask in countign house for wetherspoons beer fest. Must be noted this was in perfect condition. This is totally my type of session ale, incredible full body for the %, chocolate through and through darker fruits giving that tiny hints of tartness, really well balanced an nothing dominates though its full. Amazing stuff that i cant wait to have again.

Cask at JDW The Penny Black, Bicester, Oxon 04-11-07 A very dark brown pour with some ruby glints, off white head. Some roasted notes on the nose. Had a very slight sourness on the edge, maybe getting a bit tired (this had actually finished before I left the pub) burnt flavours from roasted malts but otherwise a bit lacking.
