4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2008 Ruby colored liquid, with a medium sized white head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Sublime coffee and caramel flavors jive with chocolate and dark fruits. There’s a lot of flavour going on for such a low percentage. Extremely satisfying and smooth mouth feel. Overall this is a fantastic experience, and a mild that would make an excellent session drink.

A Mes rate:
Gravicask at Kent Beer Festival. Mild is so hit and miss for me but when it is good I love it. Thankfully this was a real winner. Very dark chestnut brown colour. Lots of dark malty notes in the aroma with some lovely coffee underneath. Flavour is more of the same with some extra creamy coffe and some liquorice and chocolate. Glorious bitterness in the finish where the hops seam to appear out of nowhere. Gentle light sweetness all the way through. First beer of the day and it hardly touched the sides. A solid and very drinkable dark mild. Just how I like it.

At The Spaniards Inn. Warm dark aroma of very lightly roasted malt. Fairly black color with minimal beige head. Light sweet start, malt backed by a kind of chocolate with a small bit of molasses. Very smooth. Finishes medium dry with light bitter hop in the finish. Delicious.

Cask@Akkurat. Very dark ruby red colour, mediumsized brown creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, spices and some smoke. Flavour is quite the same, but a bit thin. Still a very pleasant cask ale.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm, 10 Mar 2007) Dark brown, almost black, colour with brief beige head. Roasted nose with coffee and notes of citrussy hops. Roasted, slightly tarry, taste with chocolate, coffee, liquorice and some citrussy hops in the finish. Rather thin body, but loads of taste in this mild ale.

Half pint gravity fed at the Battersea Beer Festival, a dark brown colour with a filmy beige head. A subtle bitter chocolate aroma. A smokey flavour on a palate that is light and smooth all the way through. Very enjoyable.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thin beige head; deep dark reddish brown body, barely translucent. Faint burnt aroma. Soft, lightly acidic, light sooty licorice taste. A little watery. Not bad, but neither is it great. (1pt on cask.)
