Half-pint by gravicask, shared with Finn at NWAF ’13. Clear rosewood coloured body. Naked surface. Earthy malts to the nose with hints of liquorice. Dark malty taste with a peaty touch. Short-lived roasted bitter finish. Decent enough considering the low abv (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

On cask at the Watford Beer Festival, pours a very dark brown with orange highlights and a tan head. The smell is roasted dark malt, mild licorice. The taste is rich roasted malt, licorice with a dry ending. Light in body with mild carbonation. A treat!

8th April 2015: hand-pulled pint in the Trafalgar, Ramsey IoM. Black body with a good tanned topping. Malty from the start, it has a solid backbone of chocolate maltiness in the aroma which carries on into the taste, mildly bitter in the finish and almost semi-sweet initially. I liked it, the huge swan neck it was pulled through gave it a good swirl around and once settled it looked a picture.

Gravity cask at Bree Louise, 3.4%. Very dark brown, small bubbly tan head. Aroma is light, watery, some smoke, subtle sweet malts. Body is medium, low carbonation, watery smooth. Taste is molasses, touch of smoke, finishes sweet, no bitterness as you’d expect for the style. Subtle sweet and smokey beer. The pleasant flavour makes up for the watery body and lack of aroma.

A colablack beer with an almost medium and beige head. The aroma is balanced mix of roastiness, coffee and chocolate. Surprisingly rich. Taste is also nice, roastiness, some coffee, hint of chocolate. Unfortunately, the light body is disturbing in the taste, low carbonation. Tasteful and easy beer with a rich flavours.

Cask (Rose of England, Nottingham) - Very dark with some red tinges. Cocoa, roasted malt and blackberries in the aroma. Blackcurrant, blackberries, roasted malt and raisins feature in the taste. A very good mild.

It’s rare to see a good mild these days. And I liked this one. Dark mahogany colour, with a slightly sweet aroma. Taste roasted malt and toast. A little watery maybe but a nice find.

Half pint at York Tap. Very dark brown with a nice creamy head. Smooth light roast, chocolatey and sweet. Light roast malt aroma. Quite nice, could be a good session tipple.
