Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, fudge, caramel. Initial flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter, finish flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, malt bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and dark brown with a deep amber glare. Aroma is toasted malty and roasted. Light vanilla, dark roasted malty and slight sweet. Toasted malty and breadish. Bitter, toasted malty and roasted finish. Lasting bitterness.

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A black beer with a brown shine under a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, sulphur, roasted malt, and wood, leading to a dry finish.

Handbottled (thanks Kike!). Deep ambery brown colour, close to black, with a small brown head. Aroma is Chocolate, mild roasted and ashy notes as well as some slight toffee and vanilla as well. Flavour is quite similar with a quite bitter finish and aftertaste. Mild liquorice in the flavour as well.

Sweet and roasted aroma of caramel and liquorice.
Light roasted flavour of caramel, liquorice and hops.
Dry hoppy finish.

cask at standing order ... deep red brown ... thin firm tan head ... soft sweet toffeee malt roast ... very mellow soft roast ... light mellow coffee ... soft caramel... hint of puff candy but just a hint ... soft blackcurrant finish ...nice and mellow

Crosse Keys Spoons. Clear dark brown beer. Residual tan head. Light semi dry palate. Fresh dark malt, quite light. Whisper of coffee and red fruits. Finishes dry. Decent enough.

Cask handpull at Spoons Ashford. Black beer with lasting beige head. Roasty fruity dark beer. Rather tasty I thought. Bit watery in mouth really. And quite roasted on the finish. Decent fruits.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Ebony with cream head. Burnt, malty dry flavours at the start. Initially quite bitter but then becomes a little fruity. There is a powdery note in the close. It’s ok.

Cask at The Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours a clear brown with a slight, off-white head. Has a faint roasted malt aroma. Light to medium sweet flavor, has some tobacco, modest roast, faint burnt sugar, faint leafy bitterness. Light bodied with soft to fine carbonation. Alright balance on the finish, bit of bitter roast, coffee grounds, faint mocha, some dark sugars. Very drinkable.
