500ml bottle. Pours cloudy copper with a thin lace of a head. Very mild malty aroma. A slight earthiness, moderate hops and a mild bitterness. The finish feels a little too mild but it builds somewhat as the beer goes down. A pleasant session beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, earthy grain, tangerine, bitter woodiness and some metal. Taste initially of dry, bitter biscuit and woodiness, then fruit, caramel and herbal hops. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. A fruity bitterness in the finish. Not a bad beer but isn’t exciting.

Bottle, sent to our office by the curiously generous Burnley enterprise team. We also got a mini football and a (single) piece of Hornby rail. Who let the Dingles out??? Still, nice of them to send us a beer. Middle amber coloured bitter. Quaffable, decent balance, slightly dull, moderately bitter, kind of anonymous really.

Bottle at home. Poured a a gold colour with a thin to medium short lasting head. Aroma of malts, biscuit, floral hops. Not bad but the flavour didn’t back up what little promise the aroma had. Typically English. Not really my thing.

Bottle from Tesco Broughton. Pours a nice clear copper colour with a thin but consistent off-white head. Aroma is quite malty, fruity with some caramel notes. Taste is a huge letdown; some maltiness, slight bitterness but nothing of note. Mouthfeel is quite murky, slight lacing consistent along the glass. Overall, disappointing.

I’m not generally a fan of bottled bitter, especially with ghastly widgets, but while I haven’t been able to try the cask version, this impressed me more than I would have expected from the cask reviews. A clean, long, slightly almondy finish. I was sent this as a freebie by Burnley’s enterprise people, but I’ll be trying to find a local source.
