2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
16.9oz bottle as Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse 9/1/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-48° in Weizen Glass-Pours a murky brown with a nice two finger tan head. Aroma of banana, yeast, caramel, and dark fruits. Taste of the same with a little bit of sourness in the middle. This medium bodied brew is lacking some flavors but still is not bad.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle labelled as Schwarze Weisse pours a light brown color with a finger of white head that leaves little lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits with some caramel and light roasted notes. Taste is dark fruits with a caramel malty sweetness and a herbal hop bitterness with some light smoke. Light to medium body with little carbonation. A decent dunkel that was somewhat tasty, but there are better ones out there.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
It probably isn’t fair to rate this beer as it turned out to be very old, but I have nothing else to go on. HUGE carbonation, has a tinge of sourness mixed with pay-doh in the flavor. Drain pour.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Refrigerated half liter bottle labeled Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse , poured into a weizen glass. Pours translucent medium brown with light brown highlights top and bottom, lots of suspended yeast, with one finger beige head that dissapates. Some fluffy lacing, medium body, light/medium carbonation, and light banana aroma. Taste is toasted/roasted malt, some banana, and a hint of chocolate. Pretty good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled under the Schwarze Weisse lable. This dark wheat beer pours brown and has hints of citrus on the nose which is dominated by roasted malt, caramel and yeast. Slightly tart/spicy bitter wheat but taste is like a sweat/caramel bread and roasty. Mild and and very drinkable due to thin to medium body. Almost underwhelming taste / aroma but still good.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
The beer in the glass is very dark brown with massive foaming. It smells yeasty and roasted-malty, slightly caramelly. Starts roasty-sweet, with caramel and a lot of yeast aroma. The middle part shows roasted-bitter malts, fruity, yeasty and a slightly caramelly. Goes into a yeasty and sourish finish with lots of roasted malts!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours clear dark brown with a huge, sticky, off-white head.
Roast malt aroma, maybe some bacon. A bit strange for an aroma.
The flavor is neither sweet nor bitter but it does have a tart tang to it. Which is also a bit strange.
A bit thin.
I won’t be buying any more bottles of this, but I would love to try it fresh over in Germany.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
500mL botte purchased at Total Wine and More in Sacramento. Wow, the aroma has a good whiff of phenols at first. Once you can get past this, there is a little tartness, and some mildly roasty chocolate hints. As this warms, I get some green apple acetaldehyde character, and I am scared this may be infected. This opened with a thunderous pop and poured with a massive light tan head. Moderately transparent cola-colored body. Starts with a bunch of green apple acetaldehyde notes and then followed by some metallic characteristics. Light toasted malts in the middle. Thin and watery towards the finish, and just really not enjoyable at all. Extremely flawed beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml bottle. As Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse. From bierzwerg.de.
Cloudy reddish brown colour with average size bubbly off-white head.
Yeast, more malt than wheat, mild sourness and some toffee notes in aroma. Yeast profile is much more Belgian or to be even more specific Dutch style than average German Weizen yeastiness. Quite interesting.
Flavour is some bitterness, mild bready wheat, mild sweetness but also some dryness. There’s not much fruitiness but this is definitely drinkable Dunkelweizen. Much bigger beer than I expected.
