Sampled on 1/14/2011. This German Hefeweizen pours a medium orange gold color from a 50cl swing top bottle. Large sized white foamy head with long lasting retention and nice lacing. The aroma is citrus, wheat and orange, with some spiciness. A medium bodied Hefeweizen. The malts are wheaty, citrusy, banana and clove. The hops are citrusy and spicy. Lively carbonation. Nice hints of citrus and orange at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Half liter bottle, $3.50 @ Binny’s. I pulled this to celebrate closing on a re-fi. Not a big celebration beer, but it’s been in my cellar since July, and the date notch is for Feb. 10. Yep, it gushes out of the bottle. In my .5 l weizen glass, there’s a LOT of foam, with a few wheat particles in the foam. Still, a clean wheat beer smell, just a touch of clove nose so far. Of course I laid it on its side in the fridge, so the yeast is in there, making for a slightly murky yellow color. But the taste is okay, after all. There some aging in the malt, true, but the usual hefeweizen esters have dwindled away, leaving this to taste like a maltier version of an American wheat. Some strong alcoholic notes, and more dark bits floating in my glass, Hey, it’s an unfiltered weizen, I’ll take it.

Poured into a snifter. Appearance is a hazy orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma is bananas, cloves, and citrus. Taste is orange and clove with banana coming through at the very end. The beer is heavy feeling on the tongue but is light in body. Overall a good beer for the price. Also, I love the poptop.

500ml bottle from Bert’s Better Beers. Orange color. Large, frail, yet thick, white head. Grainy aroma with the pleasant banana clove you get from a Hefe. . Flavor provides more yeasty, very grainy with the clove. Clean, but you can definitely tell this is bottle conditioned... its thin, but not watery. A light hefe, but with the standard palate. Hard to get used to this beer... not bad, but not REAL enjoyable. Overall still a good Hefe, I love this style, so I would buy again depending on the selection or place I’m buying beer at.
