341ml bottle. Sweet and sour, skunky and sharp, it is a Saint John institution. More hops than a standard lager so it is at least something a little different.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 clevelandbruno (58) - Half Moon Bay, California, USA - JUL 11, 2011
This beer is a lager but it’s just too stinky as are most lagers are. It has a great color but thats about it.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 vomit (124) - USA - JUL 10, 2011
Loverboy, Celine Dion & Moosehead: 3 viable reasons to launch an assualt on our northern "friends". Haven’t drank this in 20+ years, and another 20 or more will pass, methinks before I imbibe another. If you want the ladies to know of your "geschmack und raffinesse" and get down on your "Große weiner" avoid this and throw a case of Blatz in your fridge.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 gilvanblight (544) - Windsor, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 1, 2011
Had this many many times and just realized I haven’t rated it. Golden yellow pour with a clingy head. Slight hops in the initial scent, just a touch skunky. Stronger hops in the mouth still a touch skunky and a bit grassy. Overall not the best beer by far but has a distinct flavour that sets it appart from most macro brewed Canadian Beers.

It seems that every beer that I have in a green bottle tastes the same and I was right

Pale Lager month installment number 19: When I was a kid I saw a mirror in a friends basement for Moosehead Beer, I really thought that was the funniest name for a beer I had ever seen. I guess I was more used to the familial names for beers... Busch, Miller, Coors.... that kind of stuff. Even "Moose Beer" wouldn’t have been so funny, but to go and name the beverage after the animal’s head.... had me in stitches. The beer pours a very pale color with a nice big fluffy white head and some very nice lace as well. The aroma is very very skunky, even after letting it sit for a while it’s got some kind of serious skunk smell going on. After a while toasty malt comes through and a bit of hoppiness is not lost completely. The flavor is pretty nicely balanced... not a lot of the flavor here is dominated by adjuncts at all... There is a malt character that is unmistakable but a tad on the sweet side. For a long established Pale Lager I’m surprised at just what a hop kick this beer has, I mean it’s not like we’re talking about Two Hearted here, but there are some nice herbal hops and the bitterness level makes this perfectly enjoyable. I’m making this sound pretty good right? I mean, it’s not all awesomeness with Moosehead, it’s still watery and "smooth", the sweetness is a little annoying. But the beer has got character, much more so than your run of the mill pale lager. I can imagine that this is better on tap as the green bottle makes the aroma fairly unpleasant. This hits a particular mark for me as far as Pale Lagers go, I bought it expecting the worst but I think I’ll likely be in the mood for it again.
