A smooth clean-tasting lager that offers a good balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2014 Bottle: What to say about this one that hasnít already been said? Pale straw-yellow body, bone-white "head" thatís gone almost instantly. Huge skunky aroma, dusty grain, stale hops... Mostly skunk, though. Taste has notes of metal, old hops, dry grain, skunk, DMS, & mineral water. Overly prickly carbonation. Not a good beer, but I donít really need to tell you that, do I?

A bottle at my neighborís house. Not bad. But I had just drunk a Tommyknocker Nut Brown, so maybe thatís why this was so refreshing. But it was very smooth. Only slightly bitter.

This beer lacks any flavor at all and is very watered down - Itís even less flavorful than Coors Light :(

Pale golden color, clear; quickly dissipating, white head - aroma of grains, cereal, malt, some citrus hops - taste: slightly bitter - light body, rather thin texture, lively carbonation - short, grainy finish.

Bottle. Clear, golden yellow color, small extremely fast diminishing white head. Aroma is somewhat resin, soapy sweet, candy. Taste is sweet in the beginning, lightly bitter to the end, somewhat light sour. Typical malty soapy aftertaste for this kind of beer. Thin texture, average fresh carbonation. Itīs just like the Canadians, gentle and polite. ;-)

I am getting more and more used to this type of international lager and it is a style that is appealing if the nuances of beer are to be left aside. Not a bad beer in this category, the aftertaste even has some voom to it.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2015 ENG: Yellow-goldish and clear in color with little bit of light tan head. Aroma is soury but balanced, a bit malty. Taste is poor with little hop. Maybe just a bit better than commercial beers like Budweiser or Molson (etc). ///~~~???~~~/// ///~~~???~~~/// ///~~~???~~~/// ///~~~???~~~/// PL: Kolor żůłto-złoty, klarowny, piana jasna, niewielka. Aromaty zbalansowane, lekko kwaśne i słodkie. W smaku dość ubogie, może delikatnie chmielowe. Nieco lepsze niż koncerniaki typu Budweiser czy Molson, ale bez szału.

Draft poured into a twenty ounce Moosehead glass. A yellowish, golden color with white head that dissipates quickly. A good alternative to Coors, Miller, orBud.

Look: pours a light golden color. White head. Ver clear. Smell: slight banana. Malt heavy. Pine. Taste: malt heavy. Hardly any hops. Feel: sweet up front. Dry on the back end. Overall: nice beer. Very refreshing. Easy drinker. Smooth finish. First drank: home 12/29/14

341ml bottle served in weizen glass right out of the fridge: Here is a lager found quite easily in Quťbec. Itís mostly found sold in bottle format and I never saw a bar or brew offering it on draft. I first encountered this beer in 2005 when I worked in the bar industry. Well then, you get a clear stray coloured robe with lots of micro carbs topped by not more than a finger of white foam. The head shrinks at a fair speed to leave nothing but a fractured layer. I did spot some rough dotted lacing but it doesnít stay. The nose is at first sweet and hoppy but soapy features are also present and do come through. On the tongue, this lager is sweet, malty and finishes with grassy hops. It has a good density so it does win some points there if you ask me. I donít really like sweet and watery lagers, so when it at least has body, thatís close enough. Itís also just a bit sharp and it leaves a cauliflower aftertaste you might not be looking forward to.

355 ml can from a 15-pack from Liquor Depot, served in an undimpled mug. Pours light golden yellow with fine, very active carbonation and a head of large white bubbles that soon settle to reveal a little lace filigree. Aroma is moderately corny and grainy, with the familiar citrus of a light lager. Flavor is mildly sour and generally malty. The carbonation continues throughout, assuredly leading to heavy gassiness. The mouthfeel is a bit more substantial than expected, and the astringency lingers a few seconds too long. Uninspired, and with hints of unpleasantness, this lager straddles the area between below average and not recommended, a sad assessment to make about "Canadaís Oldest Independent Brewery".
