4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours jet black into the glass with an off white head. Aroma is chocolaty and sweet with some roasted bitterness and Belgian spice. This beer is extremely rich and makes a great pair with vanilla ice cream. Lots of chocolate flavors with complexity that only a belgian yeast strain can provide. Very smooth and velvety across the palate. Wonderful.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Snifter glass at the brew pub.
Pours a dark black with a nice tan head. Complex aroma that has hints of licorice, chocolate, and roasted malts. Medium to full bodied. Does not have an intense alcohol flavor for being over 10% abv. When on tap, you need to try it.

Draft@ the brewery/pizza joint. Brown with a tan head. Mild roasty malt aromas. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Mild roasted malt flavors with mild cocoa and coffee flavors. Less than good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2008 batch...very black, tiny head, but well carbonated. I was surprised by how thin it felt considering how it looks. Malty and chocolaty, but too much alcohol flavor. Pretty sweet, but hard to pick out individual flavors other then chocolate

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draft pint at the brewpub, 2008 version. Stark black. The aroma is a "wow" of licorice and bourbon. Rich and malty beyond rich and malty. this has a syrupy, whiskey-malt bite to it, quite strong. (#3312, 1/22/2008)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
18-Jan-08 (Draft: Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria in Anchorage, AK) 2008 batch with no aging. An Imperial Stout made with Belgian yeast, this beer is dark, roasty and malty. Notes of sweet chocolate, molasses and brown sugar are balanced by a light tartness, a hint of apple, and lots of Belgian yeast spiciness. Winter spices like nutmeg seem present even though these spices are not part of the recipe. It’s even a little fruity at times. Full-bodied and medium in carbonation on the palate. A beer like this could really weigh down on the palate and lose drinkability, but the spice and tartness really help in keeping the beer alive in the mouth. Spicy, roasty and chocolaty nose. Dark-brown in color with ruby highlights, and capped by a half-inch layer of tan foam that gradually settles to a wide ring. No lacing. Overall, this is an excellent Imperial Stout with a wonderfully contrasting Belgian character.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2008 What a shocker this one is. Pitch black, small head. Roasty malts meld with belgian funky yeast. It’s like mocha bubblegum. Imagine something like Duvel’s yeast profile added to Dark Lord, but a slightly thinner version. Richly sweet and a sticky body.
