3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2009 Dec, 2008 Bridge Hotel, Newcastle Lovely. A sweet coffee flavoured dark ale. The sweetness and intensity eventually becomes too much, even though there is some roasty bitterness to offset it, it’s not quite enough. However, overall a pleasing experience. [3.6]
Nov, 2009 JDW Rochester. Ooooh, that’s nice. Smooth, and with a tasty coffee/chocolate flavour that excites rather than overwhelms. Very nice. And I can remember having this in a wonderful pub in Newcastle last year. [3.5]

Nose comprises roast malts, pinch of tobacco, molasses, dark fruits.
Tastes follows, very subtle dose of coffee evident in the taste, but couldn’t really detect this on the nose.

Cask conditioned Handpump Scarborough Leeds. A black beer with a whitish head and lacing. Good coffee in the nose which follows through to the mouth where the flavours are sadly too thin. There’s a hint of veg too but otherwise OK.
