Cask handpull, The Black Bull, Warkworth, Northumberland. Deep cherry red silk with a flat creamy collar. Faint pear, caramel and bread escaping. Still and clean with Marmite, nutty and toffee hints. Mid bitter husky finish. Rich, tasty and slightly dull.

Cask at Copperfields, Tynemouth. Dark brown, mid-strength ale, with a deep malty taste and aroma, can become quite roasty on the tongue after a few sips. Hops can be detected, but they are quite subtle. My least favourite of their core range, but still a good brew.

Cask at the Roebuck, Nottingham. This is a copper beer with a fairly faint roast aroma. The flavour is much more powerful with lots of malt and some smokiness with a lingeringly bitter finish.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2013 Cask conditioned - handpump - Vat & Fiddle, Nottingham. An amber coloured beer with a whitish head. The aroma is pretty heavy on the fruits with hints of toffee. The taste is really malty with more berry fruits. For all that it’s pretty tasty and quite smooth. This isn’t how I remember this beer from six or seven years ago, but it’s still nice enough. Score 3.4

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Cloudy copper with a creamy white head; bry and herbal to start the developing a malty orange sweetness; nutty and warming finish. Hard to see why this would be a Champion Beer.

Bottle from Party Town, KY. Poured clear dark copper color with an average white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate sweet malty aroma. Medium body with a dry bitter texture. Medium sweet bitter flavor with a smoot toasted bitter finish of average duration. Solid drinkable flavorful brew.
