Who doesn’t like fruit beer in the heat of the summer? Well, this one is sure to please any palate. Our award winning American style unfiltered Honey Wheat Lager has been infused with a healthy dose of watermelon, roughly 40 lbs per barrel. The aroma has a pleasant watermelon note. The appearance is a pale pinkish color with minimal clarity. The flavor of the watermelon and the beer blend perfectly, with neither one overpowering the other. The mouthfeel is smooth and crisp, and has medium to high carbonation. This beer is made in a small batch once a year, so get it when you can.
Malt: Europils, White Wheat, Honey Malt
Hops: German Tettnang, Cascade
Special Ingredients: Watermelon

Bottle... RBSG 2014… Lightly-hazed golden pour with a small, creamy, white head. The aromatics are a medley of melons – honeydew, watermelon and cantaloupe. Light to medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. The flavor is fairly well-balanced - just enough rindy bitterness to prevent cloying from toffee and honey malts. However, the real star of the show here, as with the aroma, is the medley of fresh melon flesh and pulp – honeydew, mush melon, cantaloupe and watermelon. Finishes crisp, melony and lightly sweet. Big-time, pleasant surprise.

Hazed yellow pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is solid watermelon rind. Rind and sweet malt with no bitter for me. Medium bodied with ok carbonation.

Draft sample at the brewery during the RBSG bus tour. Pours a semi-cloudy gold with a small white head. There’s a lot of real, genuine watermelon character in this, which is impressive. Nothing artificial or candy-like. It’s more of the watermelon rind, really, because it doesn’t give the beer much of a tint and almost has a cucumber-like watery freshness. There’s also some honey, wheat, grass, and mineral notes. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a juicy mouthfeel that finishes dry. I’m impressed with this, probably in part based on expectations when I saw the name. It works.

Sampled at the brewpub on the 2014 RBSG bus tour - Pours pale golden with a small white head. The aroma has lots of clean watermelon and light wheat notes - seems pretty authentic with the watermelon and not too sweet. It has a light crisp body with light sharp carbonation. Watermelon starts off on the tongue along with some grainy wheat and light spice. The finish is clean and refreshing.

Taster at the brewpub during RBSG. Mildly hazy golden color. Thin white head. Wow! Awesome watermelon flavor on this. Very authentic, by far the best take on a watermelon beer I’ve ever had. Good rind/skin flavor on it. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Moderate sweet, light spicy taste. Light honey works well with the fruit. Light spice, some wheat base. Awesome fruit wheat ale.
