4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Morgantown Brewery Coal City Stout.
APPEARANCE– Black as sin (not coal, HA!). Dark, creamy head. Can’t say any more about that.
NOSE– Smells like a typical stout. Deep & roasty smells.
FLAVOR– Outstanding! It’s a perfect stout. Just enough roastiness, and very balanced.
NOTES – Excellent. Best WV beer I tried while on a week long trip through the state. Definitely will go out of my way in WV to return to Morgantown brewing and have some more of this beer.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery. Wonderful sweet, coffee, and malty nose. Pours dark, thick brown, with a thin head. Flavors comparable to the nose, with dark chocolate present, especially on the finish. Great stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler at Natifest - thanks for sharing! Pours a deep brown color with a tan head - understated, lovely appearance. Notes of roasted, toasted, and chocolate malts, earth, nuts, and a bit of espresso. The aroma is sweeter, while the flavor leans earthier. Light-bodied, with low carbonation. A bit watery and washed out. Otherwise, a decent stout.

Natifest 2014. Much lighter than aroma let’s on. Tomfoolery, trickery even. Fuck a duck and call a Bobbie.

Growler thanks to a guy in a sailing the seas of cheese shirt - NF14. Smoky like char coal lighter fluid. Light body but smokey! Easy to drink. I could also drink this all day. Wink wink nudge nudge.

8/02/2014: Morgantown Coal City Ctout... Cocoa roast nose with a lot of great stuff in the flavor, including roasted malt, roasted barley, coffee, and dark chocolate. There’s a lot of roast to the point that it’s even a bit smoky. It’s dry and very pleasing on the palate. This is a FANTASTIC "regular" stout. I could drink this all day and night. This is one of the best beers of the day!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft sampler that poured opaque black with mocha head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor wise this one finishes dry and bitter. You get the roasted malt and chocolate under the coffee bitterness. Pretty good stout.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
I really liked this dry stout. Roasty with a bunch of coffee and dark chocolate. Black appearance with a thick brown head. Tried at the brewery in 2014.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taster on tap at the brewery. Labeled on the chalkboard as 5.6%, 31 IBU. Black color. Thin ring of khaki head, leaves decent ridges of lace. Good roast malt, coffee aromas. Medium body, smooth kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Good chewiness to the texture. Sort of dry finish. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet, lightly spicy. Hint of metallic in the flavor. Solid, flavorful irish stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sample at B&D gastropub. Pour black with small beige head. Aroma is medium roasty, thick/medium body, medium carbonation, and medium small bubble lacing. Taste is robust roasty, light herbal hops and dry finish. Is this the second best WV has to offer I would say no, but may be it should be in the top ten.
