3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Countbeer (1686) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - NOV 13, 2011
Bottle:
For a geuze it has a pretty big and vast white head, disappears pretty slow.
The beer has a hazy darker yellow color with an orange tint.
Smell earth, flowers, hint of hops, old grains, soap, yeast and light citric.
Taste yeast, light sour, old malts, fruit, wood, old hop flowers, old grains, a hint of bitter soap,
Nice fruity light sour aftertaste but unfortunately dominated by a nasty malty/hoppy bitterness.
Low to medium carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to fuller body and a light creamy texture.
Good geuze, only thing I don’t like is the venomous nasty malty/hoppy part in the aftertaste.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Allen (2394) - SWITZERLAND - NOV 4, 2011
Bottled 75cl. A rather nice gueuze. Balanced sourness. A strong woody component emerges quite quickly. Jarred pickles sneaking in. Pleasant and without major flaws. Nice character. I dont like the label- a bit boring.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 laiti (1000) - Tampere, FINLAND - NOV 2, 2011
37,5 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Rated on 25.09.2010
Tasted in blind tasting with 13 other gueuzes, this one placed 14.
Murky yellow colour. Aroma is sweet and sour and some earthy notes. Flavour has metal and earthy notes. Too much CO2 on palate. Unpleasant.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 11, 2011
375 ml bottle. BB date 03.03.2029. Pours a clear dark gold body with a one inch fizzy off-white head that had decent retention. The head looks a bit thin, but the carbonation keeps it at a steady 1 cm height. The nose is quite funky with heavy wood notes. Some nice brett and mineral qualities with very minimal cheesiness and zero acidity. The flavor is much the same, there’s no acidity or even sourness to speak of, it’s just all funk, cobwebs and wood. Hard mineral notes and brett dominate. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied with lots of nice pinpoint carbonation. Nice length to the finish. Pretty decent, but not among my favorites for the style. Not quite as much softness and complexity as the great ones,
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluebetty (820) - AUSTRALIA - OCT 7, 2011
Bottle. Very carbonated. Cork flew out as soon as i opened the cage. Pours a golden aroma. Slightly hazy near the end thanks to the yeast in the bottle. Smallish very rocky which coloured head. Sour citrusy aromas, lemon acidity with a little funk. Flavours pretty much mimic the nose with lemony sourness abd plenty of funk near the finish. Overly carbonated which takes away from it a little.
