375mL bottle at Grote Dorst, pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma of leather, moderate barnyard funk, and some tart dry vinous notes. Flavour brings out dry cardboard, leather, a little wood and some dry champagne notes. Very highly carbonated like a champagne, with a woody finish. Quite a unique character -- a lot more woody than many gueuzes out there. Delicious stuff -- highly drinkable.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2013 75cl bottle@‘t Oud Smis van Mekingen in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw during TdG 2013 and 2 more @ B-home. - Truly an ideal "blend" of smooth drinkability and oude geuze. Impressive nose of noth fresh green apple peel and funk, taste a dry sour&natural fruit caramel sweet with good zest bitterness. Very refreshing, makes a lot of sense when enjoyed mid-way in its TdG context, where I was happy to learn this is brewed by Boon as a tribute to now-defunct GeuzeStekerij Moriau. Boon’s own Oude Geuze left me less impressed. Not mouth-puckerlingly sour, but not making cheap sugared compromises, either. Not one for the hardcore 3F and Oud Beersel fans, but truly a smooth traditional geuze to serve with a clean conscience to the whole family on a beautiful spring sunday.

Mild nose. Pale large head. Golden color. Slightly sour bitter taste with grapefruit. A nice geuze. Adding bottom sediment made color hazy.
