3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
75 cl bottle, best before 2034. Hazy orange, fairly big white foam dissipating fairly slow for the style, leaving no real lacings. Aroma is sour candy, apple, funk, hay, orange, citrus, vinegar. Taste is sour but not overly tart, semi bitter, apple, grass, elder-flower, dryness with more apple in the finish. Medium to big body, musty texture, low to medium carbo. Tasty, refreshing.

Bottle at home. Aroma of tart fruits, citrus, lemon, wood, barnyard funk. Flavour is medium sour with a very dry finish. Body is medium, carbonation is rather intense. A mild and pleasant Geuze, enjoyable.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Crisp, and very slightly hazy golden coloured body with some orange and copper highlights and a dense, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of super sour grapes, yeast, flowers, berries and the amazing mouth-watering scent of a great geuze. Light-bodied; Strong grassy flavour with some sour notes and herbs noticeable, all with a light sweetness, some yeast and the great sour geuze flavour. Aftertaste is great and mouth-watering with a nice robust flavour that is not as complex and dry as other geuze, but still nice. Overall, a very nice geuze with a solid complexity and a light finish - great to sample yet another from this style and definitely well worth packing across the Atlantic! I sampled this 37,5 cL corked and caged bottle, purchased from Bier Tempel in Bruxelles, Belgium on 18-January-2015 for €4,95 sampled at home in Washington after running the USMC Marathon on 25-October-2015.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Hazy golden color with white fluffy head. Aroma has a good amount of lambic funk, the more clean type with hay, barnyard and earthy notes. Taste starts quite sour and also the bitterness is pretty strong for a gueuze. Alcohol is also a bit too present for the style. Body is medium and the carbonation is on the high side. My favorite thing about this beer is the aroma but overall it’s a pretty solid and complex gueuze.

Kleine fles in de trein onderweg naar borefts. Goudgeel wet een witte kraag. Mooi zuur aroma en smaak niet te heftig, met wat overrijpe mandarijnen. Niet verkeerd

Bottle at Cafe Rose Red, Bruges
perhaps a bit mustier on the nose than regular Boon, its sharper, less complex, dry, gentle brettiness, moderate body and carbonation

Bottle shared by Bartlebier - Thx! Pours cloudy amber with a white head. Aroma of funk, basement, oak, cheese, goose berries and vinegar. The taste is funky with notes of grapefruit, vinegar, dry cheese, green grapes and stable. Nice gueuze.

750mL bottled December 4th, 2002 drunk 8/18/15.
If memory serves correctly, Jacob Lovenlund sent me this one a long time ago, back when I had a bad case of the "must age everythings"....well, thankfully 13 years isn’t too much for a gueuze to handle and this one stood up to the challenge. Still a good pop when I undid the cage, and the cork, which was still in the neck, but not actually wedged in just slid right out. The cage was the only thing holding the carbonation in...
Still poured a lovely deep copper, with a good white head and moderate retention.
Light sulfur in the nose is mild compared to Cantillon standards, with much, much more lime-like brett acidity, green apples and lots of horseblanket and earthiness. Really quite nice! Little, if any oxidation present, no alcohol and no flaws.
In the mouth it’s tightly carbonated, appropriately dry and full of delicious lactic and brett acids, giving a healthy but not aggressive sourness. Quite fruity, with a touch of caramel/sherry-like oxidation. Obviously has dulled a bit with time, but still comes off very noble and deliciously quenching. Light acetic notes creep in as it warms and breathes. Really impressed! Not sure if this version was brewed by F. Boon or not....better consult Joris. Maybe not quite a 4.0 beer, but you gotta give it some credit for still tasting this good after 13 years....
