Poured into goblet glass at home. From beer merchants. Bottle. 2002. Labelled as "heirloom" and at 6.5% so I think the percentage has been reduced.. Appearance white candy head and pink cherry cola body. Carbanation is soft. Cherries, whipped cream, acid, tart and a little oil in the body. A lovely kriek. Thanks Phil Lowry. You came up trumps with this one on your visit to the lost lambic world. The bottle is unlabelled.

75cl Bottle at home vintage circa 2000. This was one of the bottles sourced by Phil. This was one of the last batches to be made according to the origional Moriau recipie and hence had no label but the traditional dash of red paint on the bottle. Upon opening, the cork came out with no pop or hiss (I had another bottle that was carbonated) suggesting that there was going to be no carbonation. The appearance was a ruby red liquid that that produced no head even with an aggressive pour. The aroma however was fantastic and reminded me and my friend of the base cantillon kriek, plenty of cherry and wood with a bit of funk. The palate was still and somewhat thin in texture. The taste was fantastic and very balanced. This was not an overly sour lambic and again reminded me of the base Cantillon Kriek but without the sour kick and a more subdued level of funk. This was probably due to the age but I still found it to be excellent and still full of character.
75cl Bottle at home vintage 1983. This bottle was sampled after the first and actually had more carbonation but not much more. It differed by having a much less prominent cherry profile and a more golden/light tan apperance. The flavour reminded me of the younger bottle but had developed the port like flavours you should expect from a beer of this age. Still excellent but I preffered the younger version.

Tasted at the Triple Rock Sour Fest on 2/8/10. Again thanks to Phil for sharing the aged beauty. This Kriek pours a deep cherry red color from the bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, cherry, strawberry, funky and tart. A medium bodied kriek. The malts are malty, tart and funky with a bunch of cherry flavors. It’s very dry, very tart, and yet it’s very mellow and soft. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark red with a pink head, not lasting. Aroma is distinct barnyard mixed with smooth cherry notes. No almondish elements. Smooth brettish, cherri and light citric flavoured. Velvet smooth actually. Nice cherry and vague citric finish with a lingering dry brettish note into the far finish.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2012 Re-rate 12/29/11: Bottle shared at a tasting at my place. Bought the bottle at the Moriau cafe in 2009. If I remember correctly, the bottle should be about 5-6 years old now. Hazy deep red color with a bit of pinkish foam. Aroma of sour cherries, cobwebs, citrus and some barnyard. Sour cherry flavor with some lemony notes and light touches of fruity sweetness. Slick mouthfeel. Great-tasting and refreshing. 8/4/8/4/17=4.1
[9/6/09] A few years-old bottle at a Moriau cafe, I think it’s in Sint-pieters-leeunw. Served by the actual Moriau steeper/blender. Dark unclear ruby color with a beige-pinkish head. Aroma of cherries and some cellar quality. Sour earthy flavor with cherries, lots of wood and some sweeter fruity notes. Light astringency in the finish. Medium-bodied. A great Kriek. 8/4/8/3/16=3.9

Dusty old bottle at Moriau. This was Pretty neat stuff. Some subtle sweetnes from the cherry, quickly taken over by tart and dry cherry flavours. Some funk and farmhouse aromas/flavours. Really good, ii’m glad we stopped at this place.
