Drinkable pils - a little on the boring side.

A nice crisp pils, yet still only a pils, and enjoyable after some home project work tonite. The pour was its best feature, nice golden color with a very thick and rich foamy head. The lacing was quite solid also. The aroma was strong grass, some grains, and a light hint of vegetables or herbs. The flavor was strong dry grass over an almost bready initial light malt flavor. With increasing temperatures, the grassy hops took over and this was a rather hoppy bitter beast (for a pils anyway). Somewhat dry mouthfeel enhanced by a significant level of carbonation. Not bad. Much thanks to MoritzF, who through this one in as a gift in a trade with DerDoppelbock. A nice opportunity to sip a rare brew. Prosit!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - MAR 19, 2006
Light sweet wet hay nose, yellow color, spongy head. Light pale malt, broad dirty hop bitter that drys the inside of the upper teeth like a dry martini. Light and refreshing, but not so interesting in the end. A good session beer.

Upshot? A medium-dry German pils, with excellent bitterness. Very fresh from Wine of Dreams, bb mid-July 2011. Medium gold solid color, no bright yellowness. Saltine and herby flowers and big grassy aromas are huge here. Very nice. Nice body, nice lacing, good maintained carbonation. Flavor is hugely bready but natural and the alcohol is nowhere to be felt. Moderate-to-heavy bitterness. Doesn’t get too sticky but maybe a little close at the end, yet there is also a well-handled but still watery finish. Yeah, I didn’t like the watery palate at the end of the beer.

Nose is light toasty/bready malt, some spritzy hops. Flavor is bready malt, some light caramel notes, tingly hops. nice bread character in the finish.
