Draught at Fiege’s Stammhaus, Bochum
Dark mahogany color with creamy head. The aroma is nice, a bit chocolatey. Smooth mouthfeel, rather round, with dark caramel flavor and a chocolate hint; correct bitterness.
Not very Schwarz but nice.

Bottle from McTapps - thank you Sabine! Pours clear very dark brown with small light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel and fruit. Bitter flavour of hops with heavy roasty notes and touches of malt and fruit. Bitter, slightly metallic aftertaste. OK but nothing revolutionary.

500ml swing-top bottle from some convenience store in Bochum. Pours a black colored body with a slight ruby hue. Finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is malty sweet with some bready caramels, a light roast, and a few dark fruit notes. Flavor is similar. A bit more roasty and grassy throughout with a sweet caramel malt backing. Some bready notes and a good amount of dark fruits before this finishes dry, moderately bitter, and roasty with a balanced malt sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following medium-light body and a soft, moderately active carbonation. Overall, a decent schwarzbier. A bit sweet, but well balanced by a solid hopping and roast backing. Not bad.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Thanks to Scopey from Ratebeer for the pour. I hear his ratings are mostly fake. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny head. The aroma’s licoricce, anise, cowtail candies. A bit of chocolate. The taste is toasted brown bread. More licorice. A bit of herbs on the finish. Quite sweet and one-dimensional. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, I guess licorice fiends would buy this by the case. I’ll pass.
