Bottle from the LCBO. Like many who purchased bottles from the recent LCBO release, I had one that exploded all over the damn place when I opened it - but luckily, my second bottle was fine. Pours a decent looking amber colour with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is OK - malt, dried fruit, mild hops, a slight sourness. Same elements come through in the flavour. Body is on the thin side. A pretty unimpressive strong ale, really - not much character to speak of.

Pours out a nice clear amber color with a nice beige head. Aroma was somehwat hoppy with a nice mix aof sweetness to it. Flavor was very nice. Had a ncie bitterness to with witha yeasty undertone to. Over all a ncie english stong. Something i think is a bit under rated.

Beautiful deep-red appearance with a full, foamy head. Strong alcohol nose features additional accents of orange, clove and citrus peel. The flavour also carries strong alcohol, with a spicy body (clove most prominent) and a pine needle bitterness that grows towards the medium-long finish. A touch of malt nicely balances out the astringent bitterness. Makes an excellent sipping beer.

Very foamy head, almost to a point of being soap bubbly. Dary orange color. When first poured it was 95% head, though it disapated after a bit. Sour tasting. Honestly, the bottle was on sale for 99 cents at Ledger’s Liquors, and I saw it recently for $3.50 at Bevmo so I have to wonder if this was old or had a bottle infection of some sort. Then again they’re using maltose syrup in there so not sure what the sourness is coming from. Either way its kind of unpleasant.

A nice english ale. Has a sour aroma. Appearance is light brown with mild yeast residue. Mouthfeel is alright, with a little bitterness. Flavor is strong and pure. A fair beer.

Im not sure what to rate a beer that tried to kill me. Once I popped the cap, the beer burst out of the bottle with intensity and anger, the likes of which I have never seen. When all was said and done I managed to avoid much of Hens Tooth’s wrath, but I cant say the same for my carpet. All I was left with was about 20 percent of the origional contents of the bottle. Not a bad beer , it’s s poor mans Maudite.

500 mL bottle from LCBO.

App.: Fairly deep orange-amber, with a substantial, frothy, off-white head. Aroma: A sour smell to start things off (uh-oh). Not really vinegary, more lactic or malic. There was a nice floral, herbaceous hops aroma when I first popped the cap. A bit of fruity malt, molasses, raisins behind the nastiness. Kinda spicy, with some honey and an overall nose that reminds me of Belgian ale, for whatever reason. Palate: Thinnish-body, with moderately effervescent carbonation. Flav.: A bit of licorice and molasses, but the sourness dominates, providing some interesting off notes. On swallowing, there is a twangy mix of tartness and bitterness. Not pleasant. A bit of lingering malt.

I suspect that something went haywire with the bottle conditioning. Thankfully, this beer is a rare as a hen’s tooth.
