Amber with a white head. Aroma moderate malty and hoppy. Flavor moderate sweet and hoppt, very sharp bitterness. Medium body, normal carbonated. Really not a favourite. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jan 1, 2007 Flowery hop aroma with possibly a bit of yeast. Nice reddish brown amber (copper?) color, tiny BCA bubbles, and an amber tinged vigorous white head that really persists. Starts with lightly spicy hop, following with sprightly light malt, finishing with very nice bitterness along the sides of the tongue. The flavor is really nice - malt, bitter, flower hop. johndoughty (2150), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Dec 31, 2006 Golden and clear. Bottled as a BCA should be with no acidity and excess carbonation.Bitter and full bodied and deceivingly easy to drink considering its strength. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 25, 2006 Pours a copper color wth a thin white head. Very yeasty aroma and flavor with a little spicy hops coming through. A little bitterness coming through but very smooth. A pretty descent english ale overall which is not one of my favorite styles.. thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Dec 21, 2006 Pours red amber with lots of bubbles and a orange-white creamy head. Aroma has toffee, some brown sugar, some buscuits and a touch of flowery hops. Very nice mouthfeel - creamy and fresh. Flavours is primarily caramel based with tones of flowers, toffee, alcohol, dry hops and a slight hazel-like nuttyness. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Dec 13, 2006 Bottle. Clear. (Boo! Hiss!) Copper, big coarse light tan head that settles quickly. Grrr...skunk. Also some dry toffee and biscuit. A bit of plum/peach fruitiness. Bright dry malt, earthy in a way that makes me think of rhubarb. I’d like to say nice things about this beer. Bottle conditioned, fairly strong, nifty vintage label design. Alas, it’s just fair. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Dec 13, 2006 Huge creamy offwhite shiny lasting head. Brown body with carbonation. Light, faintly citric malty aroma. Sweetish dark caramel taste with strong nutty notes and a touch of wood and metal. A bit low on taste, but good all the same. (0.5l bottle.) thomasacross (129), Edina, Minnesota, USA Dec 7, 2006 Bottle. Boozy. Love Old Speckled Hen. hoped to love this. Just too boozy for my liking. Other flavors are present but minimal in overall impact. Not really worth going out of your way for.
