Orange-amber pour with a half-inch white head. Tangy hops and malt in the nose ... very English. Must be the Goldings. Flavor is earthy and tangy, sweet with a pleasantly bitter bite in the finish. Nice.

Pours a beautiful amber with a medium-thick head. Malty nose with slight hops in the background. Flavor of English malt with a nice amount of hop bitterness. A very nice English ale.

June 21, 2009; bottle sampled in English pint glass. Taste follows aroma -- sweet malts with bitter finish and buttery mouthfeel. At 6.5% ABV, it appears to straddle whatever imaginary line there may be between an ESB and an ESA. In any event, I really enjoyed this & consider it way underrated here at a 55th percentile.

smells of typical beer the way Americans are brought up to think of beer--sweet malts and hops. Orangey amber, poured with a head that quickly faded, can see plenty of carbonation. Overly carbonated. Caramel malts with bitter citrus hop finish.

2009-06-14. Crisp dark amber body with a modest foamy beige head. (3+) Light essence of clear bottle up front in the aroma mostly blows off, leaving behind a very English profile. Mild malts and hops, lightly grainy character. Flavour is similar, grainy English malts, light bitterness throughout but not a lot of hop character. Surprising amount of alcohol presence in the finish. Average palate suits the beer. Just okay, the grainy character of the malt doe not suit my tastes and the beer does not have sufficient depth to back up the alcohol. Bottle from Wine Centre, Cork

Thanks to Paul for letting me have enough to rate this. Amber pour. Light colored head. Aroma is very malty with tons of caramel. Hops are present in the nose. Flavor is malty and has a nice bitter hop finish. Better than I thought it would be.

Pours an orange-amber with a big off white head that produces plenty of lacing. Nose of bread, toffee, and some hard to identify funk. Taste is better than the nose promises with a nice balance of malt and hop with some caramel notes. A nice full bodied mouth feel. Pleasant bitter hop finish. I approached this one with a little trepidation since the last Greene King beer I sampled (Tanner’s Jack) in the clear bottle was so skunked it was a drain pour. Despite the clear bottle, this one was fine. No trace of "skunk" (thank goodness).

Bottle. Nice, medium-brown beer with good off-white head. The aroma was toffee, caramel, and a hint of dry bread. Nice sweet English toffee notes, backed by light breadiness with a bittersweet finish.
