Bottled. Amber/dark copper coloured, mediumsized beigish head. Weak fruity hoppy aroma with a weak sting of alcohol. Hoppy fruity flavour. Leaves sticky palate and the aftertaste is halfdry and hoppy. A bit boring.

Amber color, not much head. Oaky - woody aroma. Toffeeish, caramelly, woody hoppy flavor. Hides alcohol quite well but is quite pale too. Drinkable but not in the world class.

A Mes rate: If it wasn’t for the soap in the nose and the flavour i would have rated this even higher. That said this is very enjoyable. As others have noted this is very complex and all over the place all at once. It dances round the mouth with dark fruits and toffee/caramel and lots of other good stuff. Appearance is fantastic. Deep deep red amber body with a beige head that is over just a little too soon but no matter. Tasty looking lace too. My bottle had not been refrigerated at all and as a result the alcohol was quite apparent but in a most pleasing fashion. I should also note that this particular bottle was past the sell by date by five months so the bottle fermentation has had plenty of chance to do its thing and it shows. I am not getting the fizzyness that plenty of others have noted but maybe it is the age of this sample. I found it smoth and creamy and dangerously quaffable. Finish is creamy slighty bitter with a lick of alcohol and over just a little too quick. Damn my glass has finished. Looking at the other rates now I am done I guess this ages really well but I am sure that is depending on how it is stored. CLEAR BOTTLE???

Strong dried fruits, caramel, peach, apricot and earthy, floral hops greet the inquisitive nose. Clear, burnished copper coloured body with low, dense, fizzy, cream-coloured head that recedes rapidly to ring. Caramel malt, strong dark fruit, dried apricots and fair finishing bitterness. Lasting sweet aftertaste with light touches of alcohol that become more apparent as it warms. Medium-light body is very dry and complemented by moderately prickly carbonation. Quite gassy. Bottle (clear, bought at a corner store in Devon).

Hmm, might have gotten a skunked bottle. Big skunk aroma and flavor, with a little metallic flavor too. I could detect a thin sweet, malty flavor coming through, but it wasn’t enough to mask the skunk.

A good little english strong ale. This is one of the many beers that I am glad I chose outside of my preferred styles for. Has a reasonable head on the pour. I can detect a little bit of alcohol and hops in the nose. The taste is very sweet, but finishes interestingly bitter. Not the kind of "strong ale" that I am used to, but perhaps those brits have a reasonable take on the style.

Nice head. Smells like tea or sacks of potatoes. Malt and hops nicely balanced, alcohol well hidden. Would love to try a couple of pints of this on tap but from the bottle it’s very enjoyable on a summer’s evening.

Dark bronze color with a big beige head. Malt aroma. Sweet grainy malt flavor.
