hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jun 25, 2005 Beautiful head and colour, pleasant aroma. Wonderful rich malty taste, some fruit too. Intense, satisfying bitterness. This is just about everything a beer should be: tasty, strong, robust. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 24, 2005 Updated: Feb 8, 2007When we poured this, it has a wonder color and aroma of floral hops and a mild skunky taste.
Great tastes of caramel and the bitterness of the hops. finish is sweet malt with constant hops flavor. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 8, 2005 Doesn’ts smell real good. Suprisingly dry and noticeably hoppy. Unique in its combination of dryness with spicy tingleness, but only average at best. emodx (10), Panama City, Florida, USA May 19, 2005 I put the bottle in the fridge along with a pint glass for 10 minutes after being room temperature. I am a Brown Ale fan, and when I saw this near a new Belgian Ale I wanted to try, I grabbed a bottle.
The most rewarding feature of this beer was the Amber/Caramel color. I poured the cool beer into my pint. The beer formed a nice head from the small bubbles of carbonation made from the secondary bottle fermented beer. As I darnk it down, the head subsided and a lace was left in the glass.
The flavor was nutty, sweet, and strong. The flavor seemed concentrated on the roof of my mouth and the rear of my tongue. While the beer tasted good, the flavor was not balanced. The nasal aspect of the after taste had me conclude that the strength dominated over the rest of the flavors.
Over all I found this to be a good beer. It would probably a hell of a night drinking these on tap at a pub. Being a fairly stout %6.5 ABV, I am sure they are a hit among the younger crowd. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA May 9, 2005 The paper insert made more of a fuss about this beer than the beer itself. It was well balanced, but nothing special. Colour was light colour on the bottom and rose up to a darker shade of copper brown. Pour blew up a head nukes everywhere would envy. damn Hiroshima in my glass. Taste, again well balanced, had roasted malts, caramel and some aged hops and yeast. Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2005 Light copper brown, mostly clear with little floaties all around, short head and some lacing. Medium bodied, malty with a sweet caramel throughout and a nice amount of woody hops. A bit of butter, but not detracting from the beer at all. This would be a fine session ale if it came in a 6pack (yes, maybe a little strong for a session ale) OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Apr 15, 2005 Pours caramel brown. Lighter and somewhat seethru. Not a lot of hop on the aroma mostly caramel and malt. The flavor is pure caramel somwhat sweet and yeasty. A very drinkable strong le. A great brew to taste. I can’t wait to drink it again. Dorqui (1353), Brescia, Italy Apr 12, 2005 Dense and creamy foam, discreet persistence. Red color ignited, torbid and lightly bubbly. Intense and decided scent, much bitter. Dry and alcoholic taste, bitter lightly elevated. Not excellent finish even if of good duration. For the lovers of the sort.
