MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Jan 14, 2005 Nice dark amber color with a medium sized head on top. The aroma is a faint nutty malt smell, not too impressive. Flavor is medium on the malt side, and medium on the bitterness. I suspect this bottle isn’t the freshest it could be for this specimine, but I bet the clear bottle doesnt help either. CamdenD (606), Madrid, Spain Dec 25, 2004 Not as impressive as the regular ol’ speck, but this one works much better in a bottle. Conditions nicely and ages well. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Dec 18, 2004 Updated: Aug 13, 2005Rerate: 8/13/05 I will never understand using clear glass, when you know your product will likely sit on the shelf for months at a time. Anyway, got a bottle from a friend. Big improvement the second time around. Extremely malty nose with supporting yeast esthers. The body is lively and fresh, again focusing mostly on sweet malt. Dry finish. Better than first (infected) bottle, but far from showing any complexity. But maybe that’s the point, showcasing the beauty of the malt...
12/18/04 - Pours deep red - weak, weak head. Nonexistent really. Strong malt odor. Reminiscent of Budweiser. Taste is very unexciting - moves from sweet to dry. Blah. Two-dimensional. That is all. CampbellWilson (533), Scotland Dec 9, 2004 Good bottle conditioned ale. Red amber body, pours quite bright (left yeast in bottle). Skant head. Apple aroma with caramelly malt. Fruity dry flavour (I didn’t find it sweet). rgrep (150), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 25, 2004 (20 Mar 04) Hoppy nose with iron/metallic notes. The beer pours a murky medium orange/brown with a fizzy off-white head that starts big but diminishes quickly and leaves no lace. Lively, moderately full body that starts sweet with a bitterness that grows into the long, slightly metallic finish. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Sep 28, 2004 Another beer from England in a clear bottle, what is up with that?!? Pours a clear amber colored beer with a rather fast disappearing head. Aroma is of a typical English ale, rather sweet malty with tones of bitter hops. Little spices, fruit and toffee in there also. Flavor is also malty and hoppy with spicy notes, not very full, but nice and easy and quite tasty. Some dryness in the end. Drinkable and good, but nothing besides the ordinary. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Sep 17, 2004 Updated: Aug 19, 2005Bottle (14.11.04) Amber coloured with huge, rocky white head. Extremely lively. Having to wait for minutes to access liquid. Very fresh and spicey aroma. Taste is complex and not at all what I was expecting. Fruity - peach, plums - hoppy, spicey. It has some Belgian Ale characteristics. Lovely sweet and mellow aftertaste. Full bodied with an excellent mouthfeel. One class beer. Boystout (900), Chisinau, Moldova Sep 6, 2004 Amber-to-brown colour, fine tight head. Fresh spicy malty aroma, very yeasty, Belgian style palate with complex maltiness and bitterness. Hints of alcohol as well.
